Victorville gang member sentenced to 120 years to life in prison after trying to kill

VICTORVILLE  A documented gang member who was convicted in 2012 of trying to kill a San Bernardino County deputy learned his fate today.

Dameyion Kennedy, 39, was sentenced Friday in Victorville Superior Court to 120 years to life in state prison.

He was found guilty April 30, 2012 on two counts of attempted murder of a peace officer, along with evading an officer and possession of a firearm by a felon, both with gang enhancements, and one count of street terrorism, according to a San Bernardino County District Attorney’s office news release.

“Every day, our law enforcement officers risk their lives to make sure that our communities are safe,” District Attorney Mike Ramos said in a written statement. “Thankfully, in this particular case, the officer was not physically injured and authorities were able to apprehend the defendant before he could cause any further damage. Criminals who assault our police officers represent a threat not only to the officer, but to the safety of the entire community. Let today’s sentencing send a strong message that this type of behavior will not be tolerated in San Bernardino County.”
