temps below freezing leave icy roads - I believe the school's transportation decision makers made the correct decision. Buses travel far more roads in the lower shore counties than 13 and 50

Not only that. He forced superintendents in most surrounding districts to cancel school on the same days!

Send these drivers to school and teach them how to drive on icy roads! I guess they just close down schools all winter in our northern states. Close all schools in W.Va., Ohio Michigan. No these drivers know how to drive on these roads. Don't be so ignorant learn how to drive.

School buses in northern climes use snow chains on their tires. I've lived in Western Maryland and we had lots and lots of snow days because of snow and ice. I've lived in Alabama where a light dusting of snow shuts down both highways and schools. Different locales deal with weather in different ways. The Lower Eastern Shore does not have the necessary equipment to deal with heavy snowfalls. And there's really no need to hike taxes so we can go out and buy, store, and maintain that equipment. Those folks who are really concerned about both the safety and the education of our children should perhaps volunteer to go shovel the snow and chip away at the ice so the back roads are clear.

when I went to school over in the western part of Virginia during the 50's and 60's all the buses had chains. They don't cost all that much. We missed something like 6 days in my last 7 years of school and 2 of them were due to the Ash Wednesday storm of 1962 when we had 30" of snow. chains won't do much good at that point.
