All EMS calls. Fire trucks chasing the ambulance so they can bill the insurance company for extra man power, bill Wicomico County for a fire engine run and lie to the mayor and county council about how many fire calls they ran on to justify their jobs.

Structure fires are EMS calls?

Hey genius they don't bill for extra manpower!!! It's a flat BLS, ALS-1, or ALS-2 rate. And they don't just chase ambulances to pad stats. They generally self dispatch on certain "delta" level calls. It's called EMD, look it up. It rates the patients condition depending upon the info provided by the reporting party. They rate Omega, Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, Delta, and Echo with a numeric code. There's a book that breaks down the nature of the call and a brief description. The calls they self dispatch on are higher priority calls. Now there are times that it is found that the patient's condition was not as bad as reported, at which time the ambulance crew puts them in service. But having dealt with priority calls it's far better to have the assistance on its way and not need it, then wait. I can guarantee that you've never tried to care for a critically ill/injured pt with just two people. Even hospitals add staff to critical patients in the ER. On a cardiac arrest they have two docs, three to four nurses, a few techs, and someone from pharmacy. So why in the field do you expect paramedics to "John Wayne" it?
