When Life Was Good
Christmas Day In 1929

I often wish I could raise my children in a simpler time. I shared this thought with my parents (born in 1950 & 1952). Their response was priceless.
When I was born in 1972, I was reminded that a war had just ended and life in the US was still chaotic at best. In the 1980's, we will still in the cold war with the former USSR. They went on and on. My Dad said the only difference is the amount of news we let our children listen to these days. We need to let our children be just that...Children. Make the go out and play, get dirty, Do chores, teach respect.
Today the ice skates are considered to be edged weapons, the parents would be arrested for not putting helmets on their kids heads, OSHA would shut the place down because the ice was too darn slippery, and the knee grows would riot and kill some people because ice skating is racist.
Life is still great! Sure there are still wars, poverty, human rights issues and societal atrocities. But all those things were happening in 1929 (and soon to be on a much grander scale!) Just a different time.
I kind of agree with your parents 9:49. If I think back to the 1960's when going in and out of the stores that lined the streets of my home town and talking to the people that I'd meet, today it seems to be a like group of people in the shopping centers, with the exception of a large hispanic group today. All races were and are friendly, then as today. I think the real problem is the force fed negative news information, constantly bombarding human being. All of it doom and gloom, hate and crime from other places, not the eastern shore. In my community, everybody just goes about the business of life, every day without problems from others those that we're in contact with as we go. Media pumps the negative from elsewhere, on a day to day basis, it doesn't exist here. Shut down the source of hate and life is 1950-60 ish. To much bad news and never any good news, a choice that negative minds focus on, not really pertinent to most of life here on the eastern shore.
12:26, very few "hated" anyone, especially their parents. most had love and respect for their parents, grandparents and extended family. of course most had a personal relationship with the "author" of love; Jesus Christ.
today, we have lost that connection with God. in fact, we've asked Him to "leave us alone"; we don't need Him or His help for anything.
that's what God has done. if you ridicule or mock Him; He will leave your alone. hence, we have major problems today.
yes; I believe life was much better years ago because it was a simpler life; a life with meaning, joy and purpose...
families who chose to have that kind of life and buck the current tide can make it happen, but it's not easy. a great choice though. home, church and school all worked together to teach our children and help make them good citizens. government schools are not part of the mix anymore, so other choices have to be made there, but again; it can work.

In our family we do this, do you?

9:49-After a week or so my kids would have the DT's from not being able to text non stop.

I bet they hated that their parents made them wear those stupid short pants!
