A vehicle accident with injuries is an EMS call. There is no real reason for a fire engine to respond on the call unless there is a real need for it.

They are seriously wearing the hell out of that fireboat! Great investment!

The fire boat doesn't run.

Every single department across the country run a piece of fire apparatus, typically a fire truck with rescue equipment, and an ambulance on an MVC w/ injuries. If you can't understand why then you need to research how many first responders have been killed in line of duty while tending to an MVC. The fire truck is there for multiple purposes. 1.) **Most important** to block the scene from on coming traffic (The ambulance usually arrives long before LEOs). 2.) Bystanders who call 911 typically have no clue as to the extent of the accident, only that one has occured, so the information given to central is typically vague. 3.) Even in a minor accident it is normal for the car door not to open manually, therefor rescue equipment is needed to pop the lock. 4.) Many accident end up with vehicle fluids on the road, fire trucks have the proper supplies to control and clean these fluids up. 5.) the last time I checked most vehicles still use some form of flammable fuel to run, thus causes heat through exhaust. Most also have complex electrical systems. Both heat and electricity can have an incredible effect on exposed fuel. Just for that case it's a pretty good idea to have equipment close by that has the ability to put out fire. 6.) Many times MVCs can cause the vehicle to sit in an unstable manor, causing it to be unsafe for people to work in or around these vehicles. Fire trucks have the equipment required to secure/stabilize the vehicle.

No I do not work for SFD, however I am both a paid and volunteer first responder elsewhere.

And neither does 2 of the newest ambulances.
