All EMS, no need for the paid fireman. Just recruit more volunteers since Rick Hoppes and the rest of the paid firemen ran them off. Rick Hoppes has developed a culture of paid firemen to hate and despise volunteer firemen because it is a threat to there job.

Rick Hoppes has done absolutely nothing to recruit and retain volunteer firemen.

That is an incorrect statement. There is a need for Volunteer and career firemen. There is a set of standards that were developed by both sides and agreed upon years ago. Rick Hoppes does not make anyone not respond to calls That's a personal choice an individual makes. The fire service has changed and there are more standards and training that are mandated than years ago. Its just the nature of the beast these days. If a person really wants to serve they will do what it takes. If they're in it for the wrong reasons and expect everything to be handed to them they're in the wrong business.

Funny that the same standard doesn't apply to the rest of the volunteer stations in Wicomico County.

What is incorrect about this statement?

"Rick Hoppes has done absolutely nothing to recruit and retain volunteer firemen."

NFPA standards and OSHA/MOSHA regulations apply to all departments. Some just choose not to enforce them, until something bad happens like a line of duty death. Departments that require less commitment tend to draw less committed members. Be proud and take comfort in the fact that your department holds its members to a standard, unless you're one of those that would rather complain about success then try to achieve it.
