A Public Forum has been scheduled concerning Pioneer Green’s Great Bay Wind Energy Project for Somerset County. This project would place up to fifty industrial wind turbines, up to 690 feet tall in Somerset County near the communities of Marion Station, Princess Anne, Westover and Crisfield. This development which is very near final approval would give Somerset County the distinction of having the tallest wind turbines in the nation.
The purpose of the forum is to provide information on the project and its effects on Somerset County. It will feature expert speakers who will give an overview of the project, its economics, its implications for adjoining landowners, health and safety, property values and the environment.
The conference hall will also feature educational exhibits and demonstrations such as shadow flicker, noise and location of proposed wind turbine sites.
The program will conclude with an airplane fly-over at an altitude of 690’, and a setback distance of 1,000’ which has been proposed by Pioneer Green.
The general public, elected officials, candidates and news media are invited to attend.

My question is where are all the environmentalists on this. If you wanted to build a condo of 5 stories they would do everything in their power to block you. And what about wetlands protection? Wetlands make no difference when there are big bucks to be made.
Finally, an opportunity to get details that Pioneer Green has been hiding from us.
Make sure you notify all of the geese migrating along the Atlantic flyway to stay above 690.' They don't migrate along the western shore according to DNR regulations. Maybe that would be a better place for the wind turbines!

I can see just what kind of information people will receive. The Turbines in the Great Bay project cannot be over 599' and Safe for Somerset knows it. Doubt it check the FAA application yourself.
How many geese travel the flyway? What is recruitment and clutch size for migratory geese? Do you really think that the turbines will kill enough geese to destabilize the population? Arguing that the turbines will cause unsustainable damage to the migratory goose population is even sillier than trying to claim the turbines will cause unsustainable losses to the bald eagle population. If your against the turbines that's fine but debate the point on facts not myth. On the western shore of Maryland there is an endangered species of bat. Do you honestly think the migratory geese populations are more at risk than the Indiana bat populations on the western shore? There is no wildlife population on the Eastern Shore that would be at risk due to wind turbines, that is why Pioneer is trying to make an investment here rather than on the Western Shore. The investors of Pioneer feel that there is too much species concern over there to risk investing in more turbines on that side of the bay.
I always thought the western shore of Maryland was anti-business. It would seem that the trait is common throughout the entire state.
