Troopers Investigate Shots Fired during Road Rage Incident

New Castle- Delaware State Police are currently investigating a road rage incident in which shots were fired that occurred yesterday morning in New Castle.

The incident occurred on Thursday, September 11, 2014, at approximately 8:00 a.m. as a 46 year old New Castle, DE man was operating a vehicle and was traveling westbound on DE Rt. 273 just west of DE Rt. 9, in New Castle. As the victim approached the area of the New Castle Middle School, he slowed his vehicle to 20 m.p.h., which is the posted speed limit for a school zone. It was at this point that the victim observed a beige in color sedan behind him following his vehicle at an unsafe distance. The beige sedan, which was being operated by a female subject, then pulled alongside of the victim’s vehicle as he prepared to turn onto northbound DE Rt. 141 (Basin Road). The female subject then extended her middle finger to the victim before continuing westbound on Rt. 273.

As the victim proceeded to turn onto northbound DE Rt. 141, he noticed an older model green SUV driving erratically directly behind him. The vehicle then pulled to the left of the victim at which time the male operator began yelling at the victim claiming that the female in the beige vehicle was his wife. The subject then displayed a black handgun at which time the victim accelerated his vehicle in an attempt to elude the subject. Both vehicles proceeded northbound on Rt. 141 until the victim turned eastbound on Washington Avenue. The suspect then fired two rounds from the handgun, striking the victim’s vehicle once. The victim then fled to the Wilmington Manor Fire House located on US Rt. 13, where he then contacted 9-1-1. The suspect was last seen making a u-turn onto eastbound DE Rt. 141 and then fleeing onto southbound US Rt. 13. The victim was not injured.

The suspect is described as a black male, 35-45 years of age with a large build and a full beard. His vehicle is described as an older model hunter green Chevrolet Tahoe or GMC Yukon with a possible Pennsylvania registration. He was also armed with a black unknown make and model handgun.
