"Papers please."

But don't worry about your rights, it's for your own good. Gotta love the police state.

Why do you think the government can determine sobriety better than the citizen?

I would like to see some numbers that are resulting from these so called safety checkpoints. How many arrests, how many citizens unconstitutionally detained and searched, how many total vehicles passed through, how many officers and support staff, fuel & maintenance costs, salaries/overtime payed, cost per arrest, etc, etc.
If the info being shared with and posted by SbyNews is to be believed there are probably a half dozen arrests per month in our tri-county area. That begs the question as whether the costs in both tax dollars and public inconvenience, not to mention the constitutionality of such illegal detentions and searches, is worth those costs.
I'd also like to see some stats on the number of alcohol/drug related crashes/accidents/wrecks that would justify these 'safety checkpoints'. The public has changed, there is less smoker revenue, there is far less driving while impaired yet MD's gov't can't seem to comprehend that these taxes and statutes were bound to dwindle. So, in the case of impaired driving they've had to stoop to unconstitutional Nazi like checkpoints and an attempt to lower the blood alcohol content level to maintain revenue.
Thank goodness I'm nearing the end of my life and won't have to endure such idiocy and tyranny much longer, for were I a young man facing a whole life under such tyranny, I'm sure I'd leave this country..., and they've even raised the tax on that.

By these comments, you can tell this area is filled with alcoholics, who can't be responsible. And you expect children to be responsible for their actions? Expect our elected leaders to be responsible? Eastern Shore is turning into a drunk, drug fest.

4:38-A year ago I never thought any human being with 11 DUI's could possibly still be driving until I read it on Sby News.(Someone correct me on that if I'm wrong but I think it was 11 and I think it was someone from Delaware). We're still waiting for that record to be broken. That indeed is a drunkfest, but not the fault of the police who are just doing their jobs.

I'm all for checking points, anything to catch that drunk before they kill my family or yours.3:55 this event is usually handled by officers on OT so normal patrol is still provided foe the killers and robbers.

Or maybe somebody will stay home and work on their spelling skills

It really doesn't matter whether someone has a license or not. If they can get access to a car, they are going to do what they want. Until the next time that they are caught.

Has anybody been hurt?

Has any property been damaged?

If not, then no need for the police. Get lost. Your job is not to PREVENT crime. It is to respond once a crime against a sovereign citizen has been committed. We will let you know when we need you.

worn out catch phrase with no real value.

I'm guessing you didn't care to await the results of this unnecessary Nazi checkpoint before enlightening us with your amazing prediction. 1 dui out of 487 stopped cars. Hmmm perhaps we're not all drunken fools after all.
