The Home School Legal Defense Association says it has successfully intervened in the case of two New Jersey parents who decided to homeschool their child instead of utilizing the Westfield, N.J. public school system.
According to the homeschooling advocacy group, the trouble began earlier this school year when the assistant superintendent of the Westfield Public Schools sent a letter to the parents warning them that they have no choice but to abide by New Jersey’s Common Core standards.
The letter ordered the parents to present a “letter of intent” to school district officials and an outline of their proposed curriculum. Then, the letter reportedly said, the parents had to hope the superintendent would accept their curriculum and allow them to continue homeschooling their own child.

Good! The feds need to stay out of this....there are too many different learning types for a one-size-fits-all approach!
Earth to educators....they call it "Homeschooling" because the home does not like the way education is administered in schools. If I had small children today...I would be homeschooling.
Homeschooling is ridiculous, it harms children growing up ie: COMMUNICATION, all because Parents are afraid if the big bad wolf.
Must be a democrat.
11:04, what an ignorant statement. I homeschooled because the environment had become too violent and disruptive for my kids to learn. They thrived and soared in the homeschool environment. At the risk of being stoned here, I am a liberal Democrat. We interacted with conservative Republican homeschool families in a beautiful way, as well as with "unschoolers." As for Common Core, it is dubious at best for a lot of reasons. My kids went the way of Classical education.
