I am curious about the time frame involved. How long was it between the time when they purchased the goods and when they returned them? Were the bills recognized as being counterfeit after the initial purchase or after the items were actually returned? Those factors would determine (at least to me)if the bills were printed on new paper or if acetone was used to erase the ink from legit US currency and reprinting them in higher monetary amounts, like changing a $1 bill to a $20.
