The City of Salisbury, Shore Transit, and Salisbury University are proud to announce a new service available to Salisbury University students and the community! Starting its loop in front of the Perdue School of Business, the Downtown Trolley will shuttle passengers from the University to the downtown shops and restaurants. The trolley will run Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 7:00 pm to 2:00 am and fare will only be $1 for the evening. This exciting project has been partially funded by a $50,000 grant from the Maryland Transit Administration as part of the effort to link Salisbury University students with the businesses in Downtown Salisbury. “As part of the ongoing renaissance of Downtown Salisbury, we are seeking to deepen the connection between our university students and downtown businesses. With the Downtown Trolley, we are literally bringing this audience to local business owner’s doorsteps” says City Council President, Jake Day.
Please join us at 5:30 pm on August 28th in front of the Perdue School of Business for a ribbon cutting and remarks about the Downtown Trolley. After the ceremony, the Downtown Trolley will make its first loop and City officials will be on board to answer any questions from the public or media. Once we arrive back at Salisbury University, the Downtown Trolley will commence its recurring service loop.

Pretty bad that the city is promoting drinking among the college students.
No leaders or role models whatsoever within the group.
Truly disgusting.
Great idea but can you say lawsuit.
Why does everyone hate an idea that should reduce drinking and driving?
Why should I hate it, you ask? Because my wife and I pay taxes in this city. The $50K in grants won't last long, and then I'll be stuck with the expense! That's what the Ireton/Day cabal does best- take taxpayer money for their scheme to improve downtown, which is pureley welfare for the downtown bars, and spin it to say how downtown is thriving.
I agree---after the $50K then what.. why should we subsidize another liberal idea that costs money---Fund it by charging enough--or get rid of it
Drinking and driving is an old boy tradition around here.
Agree with 1:00 PM and 1:03 PM. Enough is enough of their stupid ideas. Tired of paying more and more and more taxes.
12:40 because tax payers should not subsidize this which is geared only toward the downtown bars. Trolley doesn't even start running until 7 when other businesses are closed. And the city should not be competing with private taxi cabs companies which is exactly what this amounts to.
This is a terrible idea and a waste of money. It selectively serves a very small section of our community. The college is a mile away. Do they really need a ride?
Irresponsible. The city should not ever do anything that encourages the college kids to drink because then you have the snowball effect causing more troubles.
So stupid. Typical. Aren't college kids notoriously broke? What is there for them to buy? Other LORA members should be screaming about unfair advantage to those couple of downtown bars/restaurants.
If you cut back on drinking and driving you're going to cut into the incomes of several local attorneys and we can't have that!

So they spent AT LEAST $50,000 for a trolly that will be used 21 hours per week? The Boy Mayor should have gone to business school.
Drinking and driving is our heritage.
Many of us have loved it.
It is a lot of fun. We never hurt anyone. Or damaged any property.
Those were the good ole days.
We were free.
My taxes are paying for this ,can the trolley pu me to take me to the BAR.
U BETTER HAVE CAMERAS ON THERR 24)7
Questions...why is this vehicle operating in worcester county now? who owns the vehicle? does it go back to worcester when school closes? Who profits from this adventure in the end?
3:59--
Having barely escaped being paralyzed or killed by a drunk driver, I have to beg to differ with your incredibly irresponsible comment.
4:31 PM I guess your humor didn't survive the accident. But your sense of righteousness is intact.
Jake Day and Ireton, and this is supposed to bring people from around the region to shop and eat in Salisbury like they do in Berlin, Snow Hill, Easton, St. Michaels and many more great small cities? Are you crazy?
When are you going to get your act together and get this right? Travel a bit more and get a perspective and glimpse of successful cities.
Jake Day and Ireton paid for this?...own it? Why is it in worcester county then? Will it return to worcester when school closes? Does Berlin Trolley travel in the winter months? Is this trolley to be used for tourist entertainment? I thought from the article it was just traveling from SU to the plaza. Will it also to north to the real shopping areas? Or is this just for bars?
Do any of the Salisbury Univ. students actually want to go downtown? That is an important question that they should have asked first.
Will they put a brass plaque by the ladies room commemorating the mare's visit so this can get funded as a historical tour? And then they can get credits for their transcripts.
As lonh as there. is a west side downtown is shot,ALSO ebat do you think is going to happen wben mayor liarton puts up LOW INCOME HOUSING DOWNTOWN? ,you could have had joe as the mayor but Hey that election was rigged anyway by liartons people.
They also better have a cop that goes on there unannounced and undercover.
Once again the liberals are fixing a problem that didn't exist.
You know, they COULD WALK. It's NOT that far.
TOYOTA! u asked for it.
Perhaps the 1 dollar toll can pay for it once the grant has run dry. Surely it's self sustaining. There's such a need.

This is how they operate. They are clueless when it comes to solutions for the real problems so they come up with BS like this so they can say they "are moving forward." Their brain dead supporters are all over it like flies on crap and if someone calls them out on how stupid this is they in turn say you are being "negative."
Those of us of a higher intelligence level have their number and can't be fooled.
It's a party barge funded by taxpayers to facilitate drinking by college students
I think it's a great new progressive idea in a town that needs great new progressive ideas.
Any ideas on how to prevent college students from getting behind the wheel drunk and killing someone??
Yeah get on the SU bus, the city bus was NOT NEEDED, I wonder who is getting a kick back?
What ever politicians voted for it.
Go back in your obama cave.
What disturbs me is that people off the street in SBY can ride the trolly with college students. Nothing good will come of this trolly late night and I would discourage any student from using it at that time.
why only at night, why not during the day for shopping and lunch?
why isn't this for everyone all the time? it's my money, don't I get a say?
Are any of those commenting currently enrolled at SU?
