A Letter To The Editor: Matheson Gas

Joe,

Just heard though the grapevine that Matheson Gas here in Salisbury just went union. By a vote of 8 no, 10 yes.

Ultimately, I wonder what that will do for prices we as customers will have to pay for propane, welding and other gases and supplies. Hmmm.

Understand that there were some complaints about overtime, on call, the usual stuff. Well, it seems that if you don't like something about your job, either tough it out or leave, you don't have the right to a job.

I am also concerned if it is an open shop, Maryland isn't a right to work state, so will the no voting folks have to pay dues, and if the raises they are hoping for will even cover the dues?

Anyway, be interesting to see what happens, may have to take my home and my business needs elsewhere.

Unions suck!
Those idiots that voted in the union have no idea what they did.

This will just make Matheson more expensive than the other local competitors, so then eventually lose business and cease to exist.

My suggestion for the 8 employees is to gradually move to the competition as business wanes towards the others...

If I owned it, 10 people would be looking for new jobs and 8 people would be getting raises.

Chances are they'll be taking a net pay decrease once the union, whichever it is, starts tapping their pockets.

customer prices will increase and service will go down. period

It's a self curing problem. No big deal. Unions are history and can't compete with the private sector companies. Everyone is able to shop around!

All you guys need to get your facts straight , Matheson has the highest prices around do your homework. Also is it fair that company lies to its employees and give out 1.75% raises after having a record breaking winter and those guys working ungodly hours , come on guys stop being jackasses

It is because of corporate greed and management who have done nothing to help the employees. They had 3 people quit this year. 1 because of broken promises. The man had almost 9 years and was paid way under scale. Was promised to go inside and never happened. A man was also said he was going to get taking care of at raise time and wow 1.75 percent. This place I would never wish my worst enemy to work at. I guess no more big bonuses for the manager who had the best propane season in a while and never gave his employees anything for it. Corporate and the manager should pat theirselves on the back for making this happen because it is their fault that this happened.

as a employee of Matheson it saddens me to see this.Matheson is a good company to work for,yes they have problems just like everybody else.I believe Joe is a upset employee who is not willing to work with others to help solve the problems.this blog is not the place to solve you're problems.the issues should stay with in the company. We all need to remember the customers may see this, and that is not a good thing.regardless of your opinion about the union, keep it in house.do not let your emotions take you to a place of no return.ARE CUSTOMER MEAN MORE TO US THEN THIS.
