MSP Radar At North Rt. 13 WaWa In Salisbury

Hey Joe,

Just letting you know end of the month is here and MSP is seeking to fill their quota. They are stopping people just north of Wawa, pulling them over left and right in the north bound lane. Including me! LOL. Just thought you might want to know.

Publishers Notes: MSP is also pulling people over in the Berlin area on Rt. 50 heading into OC.

They don't have a quota , they do have an agenda .
A country of gossips.
Just OBEY the law , end of message.

They've been on Rt 13 south near Court Plaza for days....nothing to do with end of the month. There was a work zone and people were not slowing down...putting workers at risk.

It's not like there are any unsolved crimes or drug dealing going on is Salisbury so the cops have plenty of time to raise revenue.

Its the annual spring bike week and state police fundraiser.

Honestly, if you weren't speeding, you have nothing to worry about. I tell this to myself as well. The only person at fault is you

You are right 10:25 , let's just forget about traffic violations and all cops be detectives.
We have caught more criminals through traffic stops than any other way , get the message?
10:25 read a little, it helps cure the disease of the mind.

Unless you are speeding you will have no problem. I have yet to figure out why speeders blame the law, for a speeding ticket. . If you do get a ticket, ask the person behind the wheel, why "IMO if you have a working speedometer there is no reason to get a speeding ticket

if cops didnt have guns they couldnt kill dogs and people either

Anonymous said...

Police do not have quotas. But the are expected to do work everyday, including making traffic stops.

10:25 - I would assume you are saying the Salisbury Police department is so incompetent (kinda like your grammar) that MSP needs to cease functioning as proscribed and take over the "unsolved crimes or drug dealing going on is Salisbury". Think again.

The summer earnings season has started early this year.

Problem is they focus to much on traffic law and not enough on criminal law.

Anonymous said...

MSP road dogs are not tasked with investigations. They are traffic enforcement officers, does this surprise you? Trust me, they have plenty of detectives. If you are speeding north of wawa headed north you are an idiot anyway.

People always complain about Police doing there jobs. Would love to know what they do for work so people can criticize them

Anyone who has lived here for more than a week knows Rt 50 & 610 or Hall Rd - are on the 'agenda' - Look put the phones down - shutup & drive and you won't get get stopped if you're paying attention.

I have gotten a ticket before. I have never been angry about getting a ticket. I didn't give the officer an excuse. I said, yes I was in fact speeding, I understand I was going over the limit and I understand you are simply doing your job. Thanks for my ticket, have a great day officer."

They do not create the law. They enforce the law. If you follow the posted speed limit, you will be fine. I never understood why people post where the DUI check points are or where they are enforcing the speed limit. Don't speed, don't drink and drive, and you have nothing to worry about. Why undermine their attempt at keeping speeders and drunks off the road? What if someone sees your post and and takes an alternate route. They in turn speed or drink and drive and kill someone?

3:36 I agree with you. The only problem I have is with the idiots who are going 60-65 who slam on their brakes to slow down to 55 when they see the police. They aren't going to pull people over for doing 65 if everyone is doing 65. They are looking for the people doing 15 or more over the speed limit(the idiots who are going faster than everyone else). If you are speeding and get a ticket pay it. Look at the ticket as a user fee for exceeding the speed limit. When I was younger I routinely drove on the highway at 70-75(limit was 55) and would get a ticket about every 3 years because I didn't use a radar detector. I just looked at it as a tax for speeding. The other thing that I don't understand is why people speed on a road with a lot of traffic lights(like in a town). Invariably I catch up with them in 2-3 lights.

Riddle me this Batman… Who decides what the speed limits are in a given area or roadway? Why do other states have speed limits much higher than MD? Why do other states allow talking on a phone while driving? Are the drivers in MD less skilled than other states or is it that the state passes laws to increase revenue and the ability to affect traffic stops and conduct further investigation of the driver and occupants? There are laws already on the books that cover these offenses such as reckless driving. Any given day, I have witnessed people reading newspapers, eating fast food, applying makeup while driving in a manner that could lead to an accident.

4:41 The federal government along with the states set the guidelines for US highways(e.g. US 13,US 50,US 113 et. al.). They are based on traffic volume, # of access points, and general road condition among other things. That is why limited access highways like US 13 bypass around Salisbury have higher speed limits. The states that have higher speed limits than Md. are for the most part much more rural. Also if you've ever driven from DC or Baltimore to Salisbury or OC you would see that a large majority of the people are doing 65 mph(or higher) and even when they are going through Easton or Cambridge a lot of drivers are doing 45-50 in a 35. Not to say it doesn't happen but I have never seen the MSP pull over a driver for doing 65 mph or less(unless they were driving aggressively) on route 50.

I went by the MSP in Berlin today. Doing about 62 and passed without incident. They did have some folks pulled over who had blown by everybody - easily doing 85. I have no problem with that.

Take a trip south go MD and you will find plenty of areas with 70mph speed limits.

Anonymous said...

9:16 Been south and north and west of Md plenty of times and yes the speed limit is 70 on the south-east coast in rural areas on the interstate. However in urban areas it is between 55 and 60(e.g. Raleigh NC, Savannah GA, Jacksonville FL, Orlando FL etc).

Once again these are interstates with limited controlled access similar to the Salisbury bypass. Not like I95 in Md. where their are on/off ramps every mile or less.

To make a general comment like you did is really worthless and misses the whole point of my comment. If you were to travel west of the Mississippi you would find speed limits above 75 in spots. These areas are very rural where you might drive 10 minutes or more without seeing a car.

I once drove west on US50 through Utah at 125 and only saw 2 cars both going east. Speed limit there was 55-60 at the time. Would have gone faster but that was the top speed of my car.

Also the time stamp was 5:13 not 5:31 and 9:04 understood what I was talking about.

Sorry but I am dyslectic. 13/31 whatever. My pers asst./secretary is off this weekend and I am on my own when it comes to keyboards. MD is a nanny state controlled by Annapolis. You can have the high taxes/LEO targeting the avg. person that will pay the fine and limited ability to carry a firearm.

I agree with your statement(which is why I moved to NC) but that still doesn't have anything to do with the setting of the speed limit.

Look at what they recently did to 113 in Berlin. They lowered the speed limit because that is what a group of vocal people demanded so government caved in.

Personally I love it when they pull people over for doing 20 over the limit and acting like idiots on crowded highways. I just wish they could do the same for the ones who insist on driving 55 in the left lane causing a line of 20 cars to back up behind them. To me these drivers are just as dangerous as the speeders.

Maybe they should be going after the gangs in this county instead of people that have jobs and pay taxes to fund their salaries...Speeding tickets and camera's are nothing but another tax.

Where some of you folks get these ideas is beyond me? In the 70's and 80's although they would never admit to it the MSP did have a quota and it worked this way. If you worked an 8 hour day and spent 4 hours answering complaints or doing paperwork they expected 4 "STOPS" ERO's TICKETS or WARNINGS. At the time enforcement was enforcement. Late 80's early 90's came the Laser Radar, because of this STOPS were expected to be raised, and while I'm thinking about it there was a performance report to do every two weeks which listed the different stops that were made and the number of same. Then there was a revelation, Radar, Laser, that could capture violations coming at you, going away from you, and coming up behind you, the Light Bulb came on in Annapolis and they realized what a cash cow the Police were instead of being a dead expense, then the computers came into being and traffic stops went from an average of 10 to fifteen minutes dropped to 5 or 10 minutes, the bean counters started pressuring the Police for more an more stops ie: more an more money now if the Troops didn't raise their level of stops there were numerous ways Barrack Commanders could penalize them for his perception of low stop counts. Because the Troop Commander would be on his ass and the Field Operations Commander would be on his ass and the Superintendent would be on his ass and the Governor would be on his ass because they were losing his money to piss away, and guess who appoints the State Police Superintendent? Don't blame the Troops they are the ones under the pressure. Just so you know we don't like some of this anymore than you do. For you people ragging on the Police for Handcuffing elderly women, beating up on old people and carrying guns to only protect themselves let me enlighten you. Anybody that's arrested MUST be handcuffed its Police Dept. Policy for the Officers and the arrestees safety, beating up old people is complete BS we've had on occasion to handle an older person a little harder than normal ONLY because that person was being combative and needed restraint. So far as the Police carrying guns to protect themselves...why I'm explaining this ridiculous statement is beyond me....of course they do you dipstick and they are carrying them to protect you. Let me tell you something those with these asinine comments I and my fellow Troopers worked in every environment you can think of at every hour of the day and night, I've seen more death and dying and people screaming in pain then I ever want to see again, but you know what? even you if you were in trouble and needed our help, regardless of your feelings towards us would have come to your aid.

You people should feel shame that this is one of the top rated stories of the week - it speaks volumes for the class of people writing comments on Salisbury News.

what does this say - in my opinion it says cops are idiots to stop people for breaking the law by speeding and actually giving them a ticket. you sure are sending a good message for your kids and grandkids. that is no way to teach a child to respect and obey laws of speeding. If you are driving and speeding than blame yourself, not a policeman.

Anonymous said...

2:02 Did you even read all the comments. Only 1/3 of the comments were critical of the police. 6 of the first 8 comments were supportive of the police pulling people over. So I guess the volume you speak of must be falling on a deaf ear(yours).

There are several factors to look at in the discussion of speeding and speed limits. For many years, the national speed limit was 55mph. It was implemented to reduce fuel consumption and was marketed as a safety measure. Fuel economy and safety measures in vehicles have improved significantly since those days but what has not is the ability of people to use good judgement and driving skills. In urban areas and especially in school zones there is no excuse for exceeding the posted speed limit. In rural areas and limited access roadways, there should be more flexibility in what is considered to be a safe speed. For example, Rt. 349 beyond the housing developments (Rt. 347) after 10pm there is rarely another vehicle on the road. The speed limit is 50mph but if the weather conditions are good there is no reason why driving at 60-65mph should warrant a speeding ticket. The same can be said for Deal Island Road outside of Princess Anne or Rt. 16 headed toward Church Creek. As the retired officer stated above, ticketing people has become a revenue stream for the state. The majority of people that get tickets have no choice but to pay them or face the wrath of the DMV. The people riding dirt bikes on the street in Salisbury don't have insurance and many times don't have a license - they have nothing to lose and won't pay the ticket/fine. Every summer, it is the same thing. MSP shooting radar on Rt. 50 from the Bay Bridge to OC.
