SALISBURY — Tempers flared this week during a Salisbury City Council discussion of election redistricting.
Both sides have clear philosophies about whether the city should switch from a two-district to a five-district system. A public hearing on the issue will be forthcoming, though at this time switching to a five-district layout is favored by a majority of the council.
Mayor Jim Ireton presented the council with a proposed re-drawn election district map Monday that would divide Salisbury’s current two zones into five smaller pieces. The council split passionately on the issue and at several points Council President Jake Day had to remind the body to maintain decorum.

First I would refuse anything Jim Ireton presents.
Second, Jim Ireton's plan would be the worst thing that ever happened to Salisbury. Jim Ireton is trying to prevent Debbie Campbell, Tim Spies and Terry Cohen from being the majority again. If his redistricting plan passes this city will be ran by at least 4 ghetto welfare mongers. Do the math if you don't believe me.
It's the divide and conquer strategy, but it may backfire on Jim-beau and make Fake Day R necks mare!
Salisbury is now the S-hole of the Shore.
This plan will turn da-bury into da ghetto!
Salisbury will be 5 minority districts with a minority mayor and everyone of them will be collecting some form of entitlement. Mark my words. And then they will be spending your money even though they don't understand how to manage their own. Sort of like what we have now.
The five seated there are not always going to be there, so drawing some kind of line to give each sitting member a "hood" doesn't work 6 years down the road! No, I agree, its only purpose is to divide and conquer, and the result will be like 405 describes. True dat! There is no bandwagon, as Ms. Cohen said.
This story from the Dispatch beats the heck out of the one from the Times the other day. More balanced and factual.
The next public hearing will be standing room only, when the other five hearings, held all over the city, had a maximum of 12 people and one meeting where nobody came.
Jake Day has now bought them time to create a bandwagon, where the Ireton, Mitchell and Shields could not build one before.
The landlords will now prove Spies correct by sending in their tenants.
This isn't about black-white. It's about the green.
Hold onto your Depends.
Salisbury is a permanent basket case and now the Democrats, led by Pollitt and Pretl, are trying to put Wicomico County there by backing candidates like Pagano and Laura Mitchell.
I went to the redistricting evaluations that were given. The four other people there appeared to agree that is is useless and can be challenged in court if pushed. I would rather have an extra "council at large member"
4:51, and how does that make you feel?

I have to agree with you, but are you not seeing the third one running in District 3? Josh Hastings is a big member of the Democrat club and was Laura Mitchell's Treasurer for City Council. He is a wolf in sheeps clothing. Pagano is just, ugh. Mitchell is the Queen of Moss Hill Apartments and oversees their rental housing voucher program.
It's just to control the outcome of any elections! It should be illegal to decide this important legislation just prior to an election. We hadrly need more council members to pay money to to sit there & argue. Problems in one area of the city will be same & similar to all others, so IT's NOT NECESSARY!
Nothing better to do?
I'm with Spies & Cohen!
