86M Full-Time Private-Sector Workers Sustain 148M Benefit Takers

Buried deep on the website of the U.S. Census Bureau is a number every American citizen, and especially those entrusted with public office, should know. It is 86,429,000.

That is the number of Americans who in 2012 got up every morning and went to work — in the private sector — and did it week after week after week.

These are the people who built America, and these are the people who can sustain it as a free country. The liberal media have not made them famous like the polar bear, but they are truly a threatened species.

It is not a rancher with a few hundred head of cattle that is attacking their habitat, nor an energy company developing a fossil fuel. It is big government and its primary weapon — an ever-expanding welfare state.

First, let's look at the basic taxonomy of the full-time, year-round American worker.

Included in the 186m 'takers' are those who aren't old enough to work yet, physically or mentally do not have the capacity to work, or have already reached retirement. We shouldn't be punishing those Americans.

So all of the firefighters, police, teachers, sanitation workers, military, etc. (non-private sector) don't count? Wow. Nice to know we value all citizens.

Uh...govt workers don't count?

Idiot.

The 148M takers are all a drain on the system...

The ones that contributed their fair share should not be chastised for now being part of the takers...they are rather redeeming the insurance they paid in to.

The ones that did not contribute their fair share when they are able to are the ones that should be chastised and ostracized by the supporters and the redeemers.

Some are missing the point here...Even if you remove the people who get non welfare benefits, the number of people not working still out number the people working 1.3 to 1. In a healthy society, it takes 2.1 persons working to take care of every one person not working. Government workers are not counted as they are paid by the people in the private sector who work...duh

1:17 Their wages are paid with tax dollars, no? So, if you did away with the private sector jobs, there would be no public sector, no? Not downing teachers, military, etc... that's the point. They do pay their own taxes, as well... but their taxes (and entire wage) were already someone else's taxes. My head hurts.

Government workers ALL pay just as much taxes as anyone in the private sector.

They also work less, enjoy higher pay, better benefits, and retire at the expense of a private sector that will continue to work till they can work no more to provide those cushy gummbit jobs.

6:41 Their SALARY IS PAID FOR BY THE PRIVATE SECTOR, GENIUS. THEN, they pay their taxes. And, what 7:26 said. The get a higher salary, less hours, a 75-100% pension ALL OFF OF THE PRIVATE DOLLARS. FFS, wake the F up.
