I think they are all the same thing. Fat Tuesday, Shrove Tuesday and Mardi Gras. Some even call it Pancake Day

I think you need to learn the different languages. He was speaking neither of the languages you claim to know nothing about. Also called Fasnacht Day which is an annual Pennsylvania Dutch celebration that falls on Shrove Tuesday, the day before Ash Wednesday. Fasnachts are fried donuts.
