All EMS calls again?
EMS should be a separate 3rd service from the fire department then you would see "fire" calls drop which would open eyes about them not needing over 60 paid firemen.
When is that grant going to dry up?
when will you people realize that the "60 paid firemen" ARE the EMS providers? It's called cross-training folks and it's being delivered by a fire-based EMS system. Look it up; it's NOT uncommon in the least. As a matter of fact, it is extremely commonplace in these United States
So, why do they drive fire trucks to take someone to the hospital, 411? Just to stay up on their CDL's?
Where do they put them, in the back on top of the hoses, or in one of the passenger seats?
Oh, they need an AMBULANCE for that???? Then WHY, for God's sake, do they need a freaking fire engine for this?????

No, not all EMS calls. I count at least 5 fire calls on the list. 2 cardiac arrests, 1 medical assist, 1 automatic alarm, 1 auto accident w/rescue. A "fire call" doesn't necessarily mean there is something on fire. This is a "Nationally" accepted practices. Not a justification of existence. Look up the NFPA recommendations.
Did anyone see the tribute to Tony Sterling on Beaglin Park Dr. today around 3:30pm? WOW....how nice!
9:21, unless I am mistaken, firetrucks go on specific calls that the dispatchers believe warrant an extra couple pair of hands. I have also heard the term "delayed ambulance response" on my scanner which I believe means an ambulance is elsewhere and unable to respond immediately and the best way to get the person help is to dispatch a firetruck because those folks have medical training and may be available. I am not a paramedic, but I sure would think those folks have their hands full in the back of that ambulance with cpr, giving drugs, inserting breath tubes, checking dos
es, and the like. I cannot believe a firetruck actually transports needy patients to the hospital, more like start medical care and stabilize them. by CDL I assume you are referencing a commercial driver's license. I had one as a commercial hauler for years and I never remember any minimum milage quotas in order to renew it, I would venture to guess that the fire department is the same way.

No your so called "EMS Providers" are used to staff the fire trucks when they should be staffing the ambulances. How many of them are actual Paramedics? Please tell us Mr. Paid man. The city deserves quality Paramedics who are focused on Emergency Medical care and not "training" for a rare fire call. They shouldn't be riding the fire truck to get lunch and dinner. We all know that the basic EMT's have no desire to ride the ambulance at all. They only got their EMT so they could get hired as a fireman. You people are a joke.

Call it what you want, but there are no real fire calls and these calls could have been handled by the volunteers just like they do in the county.

This is funny as this guy is pretending to be a tax paying citizen by listening to his "scanner." Dude we know you are a paid fireman trying to justify your jobs. You know way to much to be an everyday Joe Citizen.
By the way the majority of those ambulance chasing calls are self dispatched by the fire officer. Also the ones that are dispatched is because the fire chief in Salisbury came up with a list of ambulance calls they wanted a fire truck to be dispatched on to increase "fire calls" for job security.
10:45 PM this isn't about Tony Sterling, but thank you for noticing. Tony was demoted from his position and he quit. The paper failed to mention that part. With that said may he rest in peace.
11:27, I guess sarcasm is way over your head. If the City of Salisbury is long on Paramedics and short on ambulances, they should be buying more ambulances and traffic control trucks, not ladder trucks. There's no reason a traffic truck can't be equipped with 2 medics and a jaws of life machine.

And, at lease taking the traffic truck out for lunch would cut the wear and tear on the fire engines as well. They may need a crew cab for that, though.
