H.S. Class Of ‘04: 13% Neither Working Nor Studying; 23% Living With Parents

(CNSNews.com) - The National Center for Educational Statistics, a division of the U.S. Department of Education, issued a statistical profile last month of a representative sample of 13,133 former U.S. high school students it surveyed from July 2012 to February 2013 as a follow-up to a survey it first gave them in 2002--when they were enrolled as sophomores in the class scheduled to graduate in 2004.

The “report provides a descriptive portrait of these 2002 tenth-graders a decade later, when most were about 26 years old and had been out of high school for 8 years,” it said.

“13 percent reported they were neither working for pay nor taking postsecondary courses,” said the report’s findings.

“23 percent were living with their parents,” it said.

Because they are losers. Go get a job. It may not be want you want to do but you won't be a sponge on your parents or society.

That is correct...it is discriminatory to make me work...I should have everything given to me by the Government...

11:33 comments like that make you look like the loser. Since you could not come up with any statistical data or relevant comment you thought it would be useful to sling insults?

As delightfully misleading the headline is, here are the facts;

19% reported they were both working for pay and taking postsecondary courses;
63% reported they were working for pay only;
5% reported they were taking postsecondary courses only; and
13% reported they were neither working for pay nor taking postsecondary courses

problem is 13% is twice the unemployment rate as reported by the dept of labor, in that age category - so who is lying?

Since over 54% of them are only making anywhere between $0 - $24,999, it no wonder why they have to live at home.

In one sentence it says that neither working or enrolled is 13% and in the next sentence it says unemployed is 9%, eluding to 4% being out of the labor force? How are you out of the labor force at age 28, other than being on disability?

When Obama changed health care allowing young adults to stay on their parents plan until they are 26, was the start of this greater dependency and the Democratic Death Spiral.

6:15 The answer to your question is VERY easy. Any thinking person that has done the least amount of research knows the dept of labor statistics are bogus. When the MSM reports the national unemployment rate of 6.whatever% it is a blatant lie. Try around 18 to 23%. It won't take much more of Obama to bring us to Great Depression levels. Quit being a sheeple.
