EPA's Wood-Burning Stove Ban Deals Blow To Rural Homes

The Environmental Protection Agency recently imposed restrictions on wood-burning stoves that will deal a blow to rural Americans who rely on wood to heat their homes.

Critics charge that the rule changes were enacted following pressure from environmental groups.

The EPA tightened restrictions in January on the level of fine airborne particulate emissions that wood-burning stoves can emit, from 15 micrograms per cubic meter to a maximum of 12 micrograms.

The EPA restrictions would ban the production and sale of the kinds of wood-burning stoves that compose 80 percent of those currently in use in the United States, Forbes reported.

I will burn burn burn! Dear EPA, kindly go pound sand. Overreaching agency of peace.

Who ever granted the EPA the power to write laws? We need leadership in this country to the EPA under control.

what's next? will these commie bastards use drones to look for campfires and then fire rockets at our campsites? and maybe soul brother #1 will sign an executive order authorizing his goons to kill anyone who owns a woodstove, a chainsaw or an axe. they can declare them to be "environmental assault weapons" and order you to turn them in or be killed. just wait and see what kind of insanity that bunch of a-holes comes up with next. it never ends.....

Next thing you know they will be labeling a wood stove a weapon of mass destruction. After all, John Kerry said that global warming was a weapon of mass destruction. Is there no common sense left anymore?

What we really need in this Country is some true leadership that will get the EPA under control. The EPA is not a judicial branch of the government! They may make suggestions but they don't make laws.

Do you know what common send is any more?

Common sense is, YOU HAVE THE RIGHT AND FREEDOM TO VOTE.

Common sense would be to never again allow an election be rigged.

Common sense tells you the MAJORITY of Americans did not support gay marriage.

The more you let the government walk all over that precious right to vote and elected officials continue to do the opposite of what you know the majority did not support, the more this Country will continue to fall apart.

Start using your common sense. ASK your friends and neighbors, DID YOU VOTE? If they didn't, shame the crap out of them. Let them know they are UN AMERICAN and they do NOT love their Country.

Better wake up soon people because the United States of America is about to fall completely apart.

Quit being a cheapskate and upgrade your old Fisher stove to a newer EPA certified wood stove, it will heat longer with less wood consumption and it burns clean to boot, when I am burning with mine all you see is heat waves out my chimney as it reburns the smoke giving additional heat. Did I mention I go 13 hours per reload in mine?

I had an old Fisher and upgraded, I was burning 4 cords a year heating my house, now I am down to 2 cords, due to the polar vortex I will probably use 3 cords this year, I would have probably burned 5 cords in my old stove.

All you guys that say you have a right to pollute the air with your 30 year old stoves need to get a grip on reality, you are wasting energy in that wood that could be reburned if you would get your head out of your butts.

I also have a freedom to breath clean air, I don't punish my neighbors but making them have to breath nasty smoke filled air.

Yep we have to start shaming the hell out of politicians and low information voters and non voters.
If they start with the be civil baloney tell them to take their civility and shove it. They have used being civil against decent people who them become afraid and ashamed to speak up. Be uncivil and be proud of it. These people who are destroying this country need to be slapped down and put in their places and nothing works better than public ridicule.

The law does not make your woodstove illegal to use just that all new stoves have to meet standards.just like any other appliances have been phased out.get a life

The EPA is the strong arm of big business. The larger woodstove manufactures will be able to convert manufacturing to meet these requirements. It's the small companies that will suffer. It's more of the same, the democrat plan to have a handful of big business engaging in all commerce. Don't be fooled. All democrat politicians have their head shoved up the butts of big business. They are nothing more than slave of corp executives.

So the election of Harris was a fraud too?

I burned wood for more that 30 years. However, I was in Salt Lake last month, and the air quality was terrible, you really had trouble breathing. They had a ban on any wood burning that was not the only source of heat. I now have a geothermal system, wish I could have afforded it sooner.

Doesn't get much smaller than Woodstock Stoves up in NH, but yet they have one of the cleanest burning wood stoves on the market.

These companies that rely on 30 year old technology need to go anyway just like when the first phase of EPA regulations got rid of most of the mom & pop shops that refused to add reburn technology to their stoves.

As with most things these days, keep up or close up.

I stand behind this as it is a good thing and keeps companies that innovate in business.

Money to buy the stove and the wood every year really adds up. 12:31 is right, in the long run, you are far better off putting the money in a high efficiency system.

So in other words if you like your woodstove you can keep it?
Hmmmmm seems like we heard the same song and dance from obama the liar about health insurance. At this point in time anyone who believes a word out of the mouths of this pathological lying admin is a GD fool-A GD FOOL!

12:58-Woodstock Soapstone Company as well as Vermont Castings, Jotul, Hearthstone, and Lopi are the "big" manufactures of woodstoves and they already meet these standards. They also have a hand in "writing" the rules.
The EPA's main function is to lawfully create monopolies, Nixon's way around anti trust laws.

Geothermal is a crock of crap. Uses way more electricity than a heat pump.

Anonymous said...

Even a heat pump is more energy efficient than a wood stove. People like that feeling of doing it the old fashion way, but it is way more expensive.

Anonymous said...

I have a new heat pump and still use my woodstove, why? Because it is cheaper to keep my house at 76 with my stove than it would be with my heat pump. Do some BTU calculations with wood scrounged free vs your current KWH.

Not to mention most with heat pump only for heat got a nice surprise with the last power bill, not so efficient when the restrictive coils have to kick on when it is below 20 out.

My "load of crap" total energy bill for last month was under $240 for 3,000 sq. ft. Home. I was pretty happy with that!
My neighbor was twice that for a much smaller home with a heat pump. I will say , geothermal is expensive to get repaired. But, it is a much nicer heat that the "drafty" feel of a heat pump.

In the Soviet Union Lenin made a decree that the Forests were State Property and none were to be cut for use by the people. 100s of Thousands froze to Death.

This was the definition for Marxist Scarcity in a book by Brian Sussman. Unelected Communists do not enjoy any purview over the citizenry
Only heinous Marxist thugs who want nothing more than to reduce the Population of the world think they do.

You may have seen some of my posts warning about how dangerous Obama's 'newly militarized EPA' has become, well, this is just one of the reasons. The EPA and the extremest environmentalists running it are very, very dangerous and bear watching.

Anonymous said...

So burning less wood and putting less particulates in the air makes you a Marxist... interesting.

I guess none of you guys upgrade your cars to get better gas milage.

No where does it state they are taking the wood away, you guys are a bunch of nuts.

Yes this is exactly what happens in the Salisbury Fire Department.

The wood stoves smell nice and comforting in winter, but people with allergies suffer
Greatly from them. Our son kept getting bronchitis until we quit using ours. His health improved. 100% the next winter. My problem is sometimes when I go outside and the air is heavy, the chicken houses burn my nose so bad, I can hardly breathe. If you don't ever leave the Shore you just become accustomed to it. SO, they need to put a muffler on those chicken houses me thinks!!!!!!
