Everyone hates Common Core.
In New York, they hate it on the Left and they hate it on the Right.
They gather by the hundreds to yell at state officials, they write letters to the editor about it, they plan lawsuits to trip it up.
It is quite possibly the most universally unpopular government policy in a generation. And in New York, that’s saying something.
What is Common Core?
It’s the nationwide public-school curriculum that is the centerpiece of Barack Obama’s Race To The Top program. It tells America’s teachers what to teach and how to teach it. It makes Washington the master of American education and, consequently, the master of the American mind.
That’s why conservatives don’t like it. They believe it’s indoctrination, not education.
And they’re probably right.

if Everyone hates common core, why are our local schools on the eastern shore choosing to use it? hmmmmm. because they like indoctrination. they like the money they get from the feds by using it and they really DON'T care about YOUR children.
if they refuse to take this out of the schools, parents need to get their children out asap. but alas, the parents are clueless as well.
I spent the day today learning about common core in Wicomico County. Were you there ? yes I'm conservative, I read the blaze, I stay in forumed, most of all I try to educate myself. from what I saw and learned today it's not such a bad thing .

Teacher here...7th Grade...wicomico county...anyway, we (teachers) hate common core for a variety of reasons, but indoctrination? nope, guys its just a set of content standards...our (teachers again) disagreement is with how we're being told we have to teach it....its a disservice to the kids but there is certainly no "brain-washing" here....weird...and fyi, we've always been told "what to teach"....for anyone interested, here is what 7th grade math classes at one of the middle schools has been teaching since the first day of school: Proportions, Unit Rates, Equivalent Ratios, Finding Unit Rates from a Graph, Scale, Percents, Complex Fractions....so, like, how is that indoctrination? Again, we hate being told HOW to teach it: no formulas, having kids discuss problems and determine processes on their own, less repetition (practice these 20 problems), more "thinking" problems (if you eat 3/5 of an apple in 1/2 an hour, will you finish in 45 minutes? etc)...anyway....yeah....
Omg... Read the common core website. All it does is hold educators accountable to standards. It's Pearson that's dictating the how, not the Feds.
