First Lady Kicks Off Education Advocacy Efforts

Michelle Obama faced an auditorium of low-income students at Bell Multicultural High School in the District on Tuesday and urged them to aggressively chase a college degree, saying it would lift their own lives and the fortunes of the nation.

Obama’s appearance kicked off her new campaign to prod and inspire high schoolers around the country to graduate and enroll in college, trade school or some type of higher education. “We’re going to talk about the power that you have to fulfill your potential and unlock opportunities that you can’t even begin to imagine for yourselves right now,” she said.

Aggressively chasing a degree is the correct promotion....chase it....you may not be qualified - and your chase should end. Not everyone can (or should) get a degree. For some, it is ability (most importantly), for others it is cost (maybe some of these deserve a chance - but not over others with greater ability), either way having a degree does not give you the rights to a good position!

The government is full of examples of folks that should not have bothered to get a degree - they would have gotten their gimme jobs even without their cheapened degree - even though they have only the abilities for lesser positions.

Thank goodness she said trade school.I was beginning to think the Obama Admin wanted everyone to go to college. That is not now,nor has it ever been practical. All sorts of trades people must exist to keep the balance.

So few here on the shore with a college degree. Maybe you should just shut up and listen to her. Ignorance is bliss on the Eastern Shore.

422 Obamas have been saying that [trade school] from the start

403 EVERYONE needs post-secondary school training, whether that is at a 4 year university or a trade school.

What you say would be all well and good 5:24 IF a US degree meant anything anymore. YOU really really need to get out and see more about what's going on in the REAL world. It would benefit you immensely. Are you even aware that there is a large push in Congress to speed up the Visa process so large corporations can hire graduates of foreign universities because those graduating from US U's w/'degrees' aren't adequately educated due to the ignorant belief in this country that 'everyone deserves a college degree.' They've dumbed down the curriculums and are graduating everyone. This is the real US and not the fantasy one you live in. Now stop believing propaganda and get out and see what's really going on.
