“We are excited to see the initial phase of the Downtown Wi-Fi project come online today. As subsequent coverage is rolled out over the coming weeks, we’ll see the downtown corridor blanketed in a free municipal Wi-Fi coverage area that we hope encourages growth and revitalization to the area. We expect the entire project to be completed this winter,” said Bill Garrett, Director of Information Technology.
Below is the coverage map of Phase 1 of the project:

This is great for you, right Joe? Now you can set up in your building, smoking cigars and doing Salisbury News without paying for internet.
Awesome!
anonymous 4:15, you need to look at the green area again. This is nowhere near my building. In fact, it's probably the most un populated area in Downtown. It covers the GOB from Rt. 50 to Main Street, that's it. But leave it to Ireton to LOOK AT MEEE again.
I bet they block access to SBYnews…..
WTH!!
And they want to give pay raises to city employees? That WiFi money could go to that.
Its called phase one for a reason, its the first one.
I'd rather the city roll this out in phases so that they can catch problems before they spend and potentially waste more money on a larger coverage zone.
Call me crazy, but this seems pretty smart and conservative (imagine that!)
what a complete and utter waste of money period!
ireton and his corporate welfare. God he stinks!
Great now watch ALL of the Free Obamie phone users hang out at the plaza once the WORD goes out.
Crime will be Spiking.
"...offers unlimited access..."
I can guarantee you that this is a falsehood/lie. Do you actually think the city of Smallsbury is going to allow me to come and surf or d/l from any site on the net? That's BS. This system is probably so crippled as not to allow as much as 60% of the internet. Could you just imagine Ireton, Garrett and the city as defendants in an MPAA suit? They system is probably nothing more then a data mining vehicle.
I think they said before that stuff like porn is blocked, but people don't need to be looking at that stuff in the plaza anyway. I also think its good to implement it in phases since the Obamacare website stuff. Make sure it works first and then expand.
Just so I can sit there feeding the parking meters more quarters, for FREE! wOW! tHIS IS SOOOOO COOL!
Well eventually it will get to you Joe. It's going to be hot in the summer with no AC though!
Big wow.
