A Letter To The Editor: Fruitland Water Contamination
Maybe it’s just me…but the issue with the chemical contamination of wells in the Fruitland water district has an odor more than just what’s in the wells. The EPA has regulated these type chemicals for quite some time….something as dangerous as this appears to be and the volume that would be required to contaminate so many wells. They have assured the neighborhoods that this isn’t a ploy to expand the tax base and that they would never annex these folks into the city. I call BS! When they go thru the labor intense project of installing the water mains in the four or five neighborhoods….what idiot wouldn’t install the sewer lines while you had the ground broken? They claim that the “grants” have to be acted on now or they will lose this opportunity forever….seems to be another “doom or die” approach. The issue in my mind should be finding the guilty party and hold them responsible for the cost and clean up……do you have any resources or suggestions as to where to look? I’m feeling that they know who it is….but it’s one of the “good old boys” and they don’t wanna hold them accountable. Your thoughts?

I am directly impacted with a tainted well, we were contacted by the EPA and had federal EPA employees on site for several days doing the investigation, they would not have any concern on connection to the good old boy network. Any businessman will tell you the EPA would love to fine someone for this. Not only would they pay for the repairs but a huge find to the GOVT
The King is upset. He had to put a clothespin on his nose to drink a glass of water.
I've had conversation's with a former Salisbury waste water treatment chemist and they've stated that this has been an on going issue with several companies since the early 80's. Dresser Wayne and Purity Bacon both emitted high volumes of these type chemicals. As a bird flies those properties are very close to the effected wells and funny how these properties are now owned by the State of MD...and all of a sudden "grant" monies are availble.
Give it up... Best advice you will ever get...
You are fighting an unwinnable battle...
The EPA and the City will fight this with every ounce of taxpayer money left in the bank...
And your and idiot if you believe they are not adding in the tax base for this, because that is their intent...
As you said below, there is too much contamination for it not to have been done deliberately and knowingly... Secondly, there is LAWS THAT says if water and or sewer come into your area or development, YOU HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO HOOK UP AND PAY THE HOOK UP FEE which is 20k for water and sewer together, and then you're in a MONTHLY CONTRACT SUCH AS A BILL...
But They are correct when they say if they didn't use the grant money it would be lost, because it would have been... and you are also right that it is a doom or die situation and choice being made...
However, the main problem is of these two things, one is the contamination, that is a big problem... Then you have the last problem, they want to use it or lose it decision making does in fact hurt the populous... The govt says we have to spend it or it will go away, so who gives a shit if it goes away, it will come back with another name some other time... they do it to cause a sense of urgency so you will be more inclined to go alone to get along...
NOW YOU ALL SEE WHERE GOING ALONG TO GET ALONG GETS YOU... so maybe you won't just keep doing it then HUH? nah your to stupid to learn from mistakes...

What a lemming. You have a defeatist attitude already. MANY have been told don't fight, but they do and win. It only takes one person to make a change. Why get forced into a bad deal. People should be given ample time to make life long decisions.
They are not looking after the citizens best interest. Wait until they get their new $400+ a quarter water bills. Thats another secret that no one is talking about.
I say go for it, NO ONE IS GOING TO PROTECT YOU BUT YOU AND IF YOU DON'T BELIEVE THAT YOU ARE AN IDIOT.
Fight city hall and win.
He has a valid point, why are they not putting in sewer lines?
Being a long time resident of Fruity town, that strange taste is not contamination. welcome to sulfur flavored water.
