Resume: New Castle-The Delaware State Police are conducting a death investigation after a body was found in a marshland adjacent to the southbound lanes of US 13 in New Castle, this morning.
The incident occurred at approximately 10:50 a.m. as a billboard maintenance crew was working on billboard located in a field in the area of the 100 block of South DuPont Highway and found the decomposing body.
Preliminary investigation indicated that the unidentified, partially clothed, decomposing skeletal remains were located approximately 20 feet down a grass embankment, in a marshland type area adjacent to the southbound lanes of US 13. The age or gender of the remains has not been determined at this time.
Troopers were able to access the remains and are working in coordination with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to remove the body from the scene and conduct an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death.
Delaware State Police Detectives continue their investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding this incident. Traffic was not affected due to the investigation or recovery.
