Amazon.com will open a 1-million-square-foot fulfillment center on the site of the former General Motors Assembly plant along Broening Highway in Southeast Baltimore.
The company's news release offers no details as to when the facility will open, but the company says it will create 1,000 fulltime jobs.
Workers at the facility will pick, pack and ship books, electronics and consumer goods.
The company says the fulfillment center jobs pay on average 30-percent more than traditional jobs, and include benefits including health care, stock awards, and a 401 (k).

More jobs for Baltimore. Either Omalley is just ignoring this area or the people in this area are not doing anything to bring these types of jobs to this area. Either way we are getting screwed.
1) I buy from Amazon occasionally, and they have been a good vendor.
2) Yesterday they announced 'free shipping' would now require a $35 minimum purchase, up from the previous $25 minimum. That's a 40% increase.
3) And since they plan to drop anchor in Charm City things will now cost an additional 6%, which will not count toward the $35 minimum.
4) How soon before the next Dem governor raises the sales tax again?
Forecast: my purchases via Amazon will drop once MD taxes start to be levied.

It has nothing to do with politics, its about geography. Why would amazon open a shipping fulfillment center where access to rail, air and major highways is limited?
Baltimore is a port, bwi is nearby and access to rail freight is more available over there. I regret that they chose Baltimore but logistically it makes sense.

I posted at 4:38 but I forgot to include those sentiments in my comment! Just felt like it was worth pointing out that O'Malley probably had little influence on location. They were going to go where they felt it was best for them.
Unfortunately this means Amazon shoppers in MD will have to pay sales tax now.
No big deal. 43 million in tax credits to not only Amazon but the landlord. This is nothing more than jobs that are paid for by the tax payers. Not a thing to celebrate. Any idiot can create these kind of jobs. The location was deemed to be in an "impoverished" area by the state.
Maryland is supposed to be such a "wealthy" state. We shouldn't have any impoverished areas if that were true.
Once again mega corporation gets huge tax incentives in MD while small businesses see their taxes increase. This is par for course. Democrats would love to rid the country of small business and have a handful of large corporations in control of all commerce and services.
