You can't get blood out of a turnip.

Delmar rolled out 4 fire trucks around noon today going to Salisbury only to have them all return no more than 10 min later. Was that a joy ride?

Another structure fire that turned out to be nothing. Notice though it was in Parsonsburg's fire district.

This daily run log proves that the "Salisbury Fire Department" is actually Salisbury EMS. When are the people going to wake up and realize we are wasting millions of dollars on a paid fire department that is unnecessary.

Delmar is an all volunteer fire department. If they can roll out 4 fire trucks with volunteers then Salisbury certainly can.

Can someone point out to the citizens where the advertisements are in Salisbury recruiting volunteers so many of us can join. With the economy as bad as it is and people are unemployed you know they would have more time on their hands to volunteer.

Joe- just wondering if you will be at the next Salisbury council meeting? I will be and am wondering why a closed session is necessary to discuss the new Salisbury fire station. Is this the fire chiefs amd the Mayors attempt to close fire station #2, which I understand is the busiest fire station in the city, has the largest fire district, and is proud to provide volunteer fire service 24/7/365. Also I inquired about being a volunteer fireman at the headquarters fire station and was told by one of the staff that they were only recruiting people to ride the ambulance. What goes?

Salisbury Station 2 is volunteer weekdays after 5:30 and weekends not 24/7/365. They struggle to get out at times, but try hard. It is not the busiest station and you need only to check the statistics to disprove your statement. Salisbury is always recruiting volunteers and anyone interested in riding the ambulance. Just statement of facts.

well anon 3:48 the city is not going to change the combination career / volunteer system that serves the city well since the 40's. Sorry you don't like it but it works. Volunteers have to work and cant be available all the time. The citizens don't care who shows up first when they need them. I don't seem to see you saying much when the volunteer stations fail to respond. By the way station 2 was re-alerted and finally got out much later on the call to Parsonsburg.

Station 2 is struggling and that is because they don't have enough volunteers.

You didn't answer the question about where are they actively advertising recruiting and retaining volunteers. Just because you say "Salisbury is always recruiting volunteers" does not prove that they in fact are. I have never seen an advertisement on tv. I have never seen a billboard announcement. I have never seen a sign in front of any of the stations where they are actively recruiting volunteers. You are full of crap and nothing but a deceiving liar.

And you were tickled to death they had to be re-alerted. The bottom line is there are not enough volunteers anywhere in the city and the administration is doing noting to change this.

Liar ? You have no idea what your talking about as usual. Your so hell bent and obsessed on finding something wrong with the fire department you cant see reality. I will get the chance to look you in the eye and confront you on your statement.

No not at all. There are not enough Volunteers anywhere. Times have changed and available time for any citizen is down. I volunteer and have no issues with the paid firemen. I'm not sure why you have a problem.

You anon are incorrect of your assessment for this call. When the fire department arrived on location they found a heavy smoke condition in the crawl space of the house. Units were on scene for about and hour or so. They found that the electrical system in the house had lost its ground therefore making ALL electrical outlets very dangerous.

The volunteers at Station 2 had to be re-alerted in the mean time the paid engine from Station 16 self-dispatched and went to the scene and were almost there before Truck 2 responded.

Station 2 still had another 3 minutes to respond before another station would have been alerted in their place. Why did Station 16 self dispatch? The real kicker is that once Engine 16-1 arrived on location they were then told on the radio that they would be placed in "stand-by" mode to cover any other calls for Parsonsburg. This now committed the "paid" weekend engine crew keeping them unnecessarily out of the city while the volunteers members on Truck 2 were releases after they completed their assignment and Engine 16-1 had to stay.
