WASHINGTON (CBSDC/AP) – The U.S. Capitol building was placed on lockdown shortly after 2 p.m. and Capitol police issued a shelter-in-place order Thursday afternoon following reports of shots fired nearby.
The lockdown has been lifted but there is still a swarm of law enforcement on Capitol Hill.
Capitol Police Chief Kim Dine says this is an isolated incident that began when a woman tried to ram the barricade at the White House with her vehicle. She then fled about a mile to Capitol Hill. He says a child was in the car but was not harmed.
