Yahoo chief Marissa Mayer said she feared winding up in prison for treason if she refused to comply with U.S. spy demands for data.
Her comments came after being asked what she is doing to protect Yahoo users from "tyrannical government" during an on-stage interview Wednesday afternoon at a TechCrunch Disrupt conference in San Francisco.
Mayer said Yahoo scrutinizes and fights U.S. government data requests stamped with the authority of a Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court, but when the company loses battles it must do as directed or risk being branded a traitor.
Data requests authorized by the court come with an order barring anyone at the company receiving the request from disclosing anything about them, even their existence.
"If you don't comply, it is treason," Mayer said when asked why she couldn't just spill details of requests by U.S. spy agencies for information about Yahoo users.

Sorry, I'm ex NSA and I don't believe any of this for a minute.
802, please expound! For me, I would flat out say no. If pressed, I would explain that me starting and running a private business has its own purpose, and spying is not on the agenda. If you want to spy, go do it on your own.
Maybe that would be a new concept.
What were you at NSA? A secretary? How much info has to be leaked? Have you read the Patriot Act or know about the NDAA? Of COURSE, the government NEVER strong arms anyone. They NEVER threaten people with prison for not "complying". Forget the low level county police who will kill you for failure to "comply". The federal agents would never invoke SECRET laws (thats right--- secret) in order to make you "comply". Remember when (under the Patriot Act) LIBRARIANS (!!) were threatened with secret arrest if they revealed to anyone that the FBI wanted the reading lists of suspects? Have you been in a coma for 10 years?
Ms. Mayer you are not a traitor for defying unconstitutional laws. If you and your MSM cohorts are so dead set against this.., challenge the law as a group. Short of that, I continue to believe you're all in bed w/the gov't, possibly even a tangent of.
