OCPD RECIEVES AWARD FOR TRAFFIC SAFETY ENFORCEMENT

Chief Ross Buzzuro and
Lt. Scott Harner
On September 11, 2013, the Ocean City Police Department and OCPD Lt. Scott Harner earned awards from the Maryland Highway Safety Office for participation in the “Walk Smart” campaign and the strong enforcement efforts against traffic safety violations. OCPD worked very closely with the Highway Safety Office and the Maryland State Highway Administration to create and promote the “Walk Smart” campaign.

Lt. Harner is the head of OCPD’s Traffic Safety Unit and has served as one of the driving forces behind the department’s success in traffic and pedestrian safety. Not only has the “Walk Smart” campaign yielded a nearly 50 percent decrease in pedestrian collisions, but the Traffic Safety Unit has also removed numerous drunk drivers from Ocean City roads and have also been responsible for many drug and weapons arrests. Lt. Harner is often the creator behind many of the department’s innovative and active traffic enforcement strategies that produce such great results.

The Ocean City Police Department is proud to have received this award and will continue to keep Ocean City’s roads safe through education and enforcement.

11:10 just one more way the OCPD can detain people. If they don't like how you look they will pull you aside for jaywalking. You will get searched and then charged with with an alcohol or marijuana charge. The fact that OC has marijuana arrests 8 times the national average tells you that this their interest....not jaywalking. Their really don't care about safety. It is all about the control and $$$$. Shameful.
