A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
Go read it yourself.
Purpose in keeping and bearing arms was related to a well-regulated militia. Amendment does not say bear arms to protect self and property.
"... the right of THE PEOPLE (emphasis mine)...)... a government controlled militia wouldn't do ANYTHING to keep a power crazed government under control, would it? I'm SURE that Madison and Jefferson intended us (we, the people) to be defenseless against the NEXT wave of oppression and tyranny.
