Va. Woman Sentenced For Social Security Theft

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (AP) -- A Newport News woman who collected her late grandmother's Social Security benefits will spend six months in prison.

Forty-eight-year-old Yvette A. Disnew had pleaded guilty in May to theft of government monies. The Virginian-Pilot ( http://bit.ly/1eyfzGi ) reports that Disnew was sentenced Monday in U.S. District Court.

According to court documents, Disnew collected more than $152,000 from the Social Security Administration after her 87-year-old grandmother, Carrie Lee Mason, died in 1999. The scheme was discovered in 2012.

This happens quite frequently. Why do you think freezer sales soar in bad economic times? It's not to stock up on food it's to put granny in when she dies so they can continue to collect "the check". Sometimes it might be pops, uncles, aunts, and sadly enough, kids.
