Winner Of $590 Million Powerball Jackpot Steps Forward

We have a winner.

The holder of the lucky ticket in a record $590.5 million Powerball jackpot is Gloria Mackenzie, Florida Lottery officials said at a news conference on Wednesday afternoon.

The winning numbers of 10, 13, 14, 22, and 52 were drawn May 18, with a Powerball number of 11. She bought the ticket at a Publix supermarket in Zephyrhills, Fla.

Mackenzie, 84, opted to take a lump sum payout of more than $370 million before taxes.

either you all are too stupid to type correctly and made a mistake or something is very very wrong here...

You're telling me based on what this idiot wrote, if correct means, this lady took the lump sum and they took 200 million from her off the get go and she STILL NEEDS to PAY TAXES on it after that? Seems a little fishy to me...

I thought if you took the lump sum, you paid taxes on it and usually that equates to about 50% of the total winnings...

not where you take the lump sum, and they take 200 million and then tax you on the rest... that would be a double tax wouldn't it?

If she would have let them pay her yearly she would have gotten the 590.5 million over so many years. If she takes the lump sum she gets 370 million and then she has to pay taxes on it to the government. Money they did NOT earn and money that had already been taxed by the people that made the money so they could buy the ticket

4:43, do you realize when a post says more it's usually a story that was already printed. joe is just sharing what's already been written. don't be so snooty.
1. I would think all states may distribute earnings differently.
2. double tax ??? are you joking ?? there are many things that are double taxed. wait until you get your social security. we paid taxes on ALL earnings when we got our paychecks. well; we're paying taxes again on each check we get. don't be naïve about double taxing.
3. be nice.
