Mayor James Ireton, Jr. announces today that the Director of Salisbury Public Works, Teresa Gardner, is leaving Salisbury for the State of Virginia. Mayor Ireton is appointing Deputy Director of Public Works, Amanda Pollack to serve as Interim-Director of Public Works until a national search can be undertaken. Ms. Gardner is relocating to VA and will be serving both the Culpeper and Staunton districts as the Regional Traffic Engineer. Ms. Gardner said today, “This has been a broadening experience for me and I wish everyone in the City of Salisbury organization much success in the future. Thank you for the opportunity to serve the City and the
pleasure to work under this administration.”
Amanda H. Pollack, P.E. has 17 years of engineering experience. She worked in the private sector for 16 years before starting with the City of Salisbury in July 2012. Mrs. Pollack is a licensed professional engineer in Maryland and Delaware. Her specialties are water, wastewater and municipal engineering. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Lehigh University. She grew up in Salisbury and attended Parkside High School.
Mayor Ireton thanks Ms. Gardner for her service and dedication to the City, most especially her work during the Wastewater Treatment Plant lawsuit and wishes her well on her future endeavors.

Could it be the election brought on enough pressure that most business leaders realized Pick and Gardner failed to concentrate on economic development and the jumped ship?
I know the nay sayers will immediately say no but there was absolutely no question during the Forum's I challenged Ireton and his Department Heads and there was no doubt, waiting 3 years for permits was absolutely ridiculous.
We have provided documents out the ying yang proving massive job losses in Salisbury and Wicomico County.
For John Pick to continue job searching, once again, there's no question he saw the writing on the wall.
Two of the most important people working for the City have jumped ship. Like it or not, Ireton is NOT liked by most.
I like him!
He's just dreamy!!!
Pick was a P&ick. Gardner was useless. The mayor is an idiot. Salisbury has been dying for decades. Same with the county. Only old people, drug addicts and gang members will be there in another few years.
Or could it be that there is major corruption in Salisbury and department heads are jumping ship before the corruption comes to light
I tend to agree with 7:41 pm there is much corruption and it needs to be stopped and bright to light to all the taxpayers.
I think 7:41 PM hit the nail on the head!
The City of Salisbury is vomiting as a result of the people's mistake in selection of its leader.
I agree with you Joe - the stats show it all - 2,953 less jobs in Salisbury/Wicomico - in just over a year. The city personel are jumping ship like there is no tomorrow.
Actually Amanda Pollack is a much better DPW knowledgeable person than Theresa ever thought she was.
With the promise of Ireton for three more years, yeah, I couldn't do that either. The election was a total rig, and Barrie has her Minions in a row. The flies are dropping, and new minions will slither in.
Piteous.
Pick has been looking ever since Ireton got elected.
Don't know Pollack, but few times I've seen her on PAC14, she sounds far more intelligent and trustworthy than Gardner.
Gardner hasn't been there all that long. Makes you wonder.
As a city employee I whole heartedly endorse Amanda as the next Public Works Director. She is the stark opposite of Teresa. She leads by example, cares deeply for the city and the workers, is smart, capable, talented and confident. She would be a great person to right the ship.
Joe,
If Amanda is now the interim Public Works Director, then what is Teresa Gardner doing? Was she let go?
Theresa Gardner's Farewell Address:
Hey, Salisbury, Up Yours
PS - does she really call Lore Chambers the "Wierdo's Wacco"?
11:31
Hey, that's DR. Wierdo Wacco to you! lol
It is odd that people are leaving their jobs when jobs are so hard to find. They must be hatin' life working for the city of Salisbury.
Joe, you've got it right in your first comment - but your closing sentence isn't the issue. They moved on because the alternative was the City moving on without them. We're positioned for new successes - we can't have stalwarts holding us back. It's an exciting time to be in Salisbury!
Amanda is AWESOME!
I've known Amanda Pollack for many years through business association with GMB. She is a true professional and intelligent young lady and will do a great job in whatever position she is appointed to. Hopefully, the mayor will make the wise choice of promoting her to the PWD position for the city of Salisbury.
I agree with 12:31
One thing is for sure - the City has sure lost quite a few of personel, Lori Chambers, Teresa Gardner, John Pick, and another former City Engineer-(cannot recall his name)- who took at job at VDOT - in Virginia.
This does not look good for the City.
Lore Chambers isn't gone. Your 6:38 commenter is misinformed.
I have quite a few questions I want to axe Mayor Ireton regarding some of the replacement heads. First off-I still would like to know why Mr. Barkley didn't get the position of Poelice chief when that vacancy went unfilled for years.
I wonder if Teresa will get her VA professional engineer's license. She isn't licensed in MD, even though she was a PW director in Salisbury.
AND, the City of Salisbury even paid for her license in Delaware!!!
FYI-
Ms. Pollock has already informed Jim-beau that she does not want the job. As soon as business picks back up, watch her return to GMB.
Amanda would be great for the City. She is smart, reasonable, full of common sense and very approachable. She is a pleasure to work with. Unfortunately she is smart enough to know that being the director of SPW would suck and be a huge headache.
I don't know anyone who would want to work for Ireton. Heck, I need a job and am qualified, but I wouldn't stoop that low. It would be the most miserable experience of my life.
