Walk At Lunch 05/13/2013

The first 500 walkers receive a FREE reusable lunch tote

In observation of National Employee Health & Fitness Day, Wicomico County Executive Rick Pollitt is pleased to announce the 13th annual Walk @ Lunch on Wednesday, May 15th, sponsored by the Wicomico County Executive’s Fitness Council.

Sharon E. Cooper, Wicomico County Health Department Community Health Educator and Fitness Council co-chairperson is encouraging everyone to, “Spend your lunchtime downtown enjoying a scenic walk and healthy lunch with your friends and co-workers.” The course will be open from 11am to 1:30 pm and participants can begin at any time during that period.

The Fitness Council is sponsoring Walk @ Lunch to give the community one more way to help them reach theOne Million Minutes of Movement Challenge through Live Healthy, Wicomico. Teams signed up for the 10-week Challenge (LiveHealthyWicomico.org) who participate in Walk @ Lunch will receive an extra special reward! It’s not too late to sign up your team!

Walk @ Lunch is free and open to the public but participants need to register online at www.wicomicohealth.orgby May 13th. Walkers may register the day of the event but they will not be guaranteed a free lunch. The event showcases the ease of including walking as part of one’s workday. Studies show that including at least 30 minutes of physical activity each day can improve or maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Pollitt commented, “While I greatly appreciate the Executive’s Fitness Council for organizing this event, I also want to acknowledge our many wonderful sponsors. We couldn’t bring this event to our community every year without their support. We look forward to seeing you at the pavilion on East Market Street!”

Let's see how much walkin' Tricky Ricky does! Oh, but he'll not miss lunch, though!

Nice idea. My lunch is 30 min. I will go out and walk where I work. Nicer weather coming soon, a walk will be a nice change and good for health.
