Teen gets ultimatum after playing truant for most of school year
The parent he chooses will spend a month in prison
The 15-year-old had repeated warnings about the consequences
An Irish teenage boy was ordered to make the heart-breaking decision to send either his mother or his father to jail for failing to ensure he attended school.
Judge Alan Mitchell told the youth he must choose who will be jailed for 21 days and who will receive a suspended sentence during a case brought against the boy's parents at Galway District Court.
The 15-year-old from Galway is a repeat truant and continued bunking off even after he was made aware of the possible legal consequences for his parents.

Good idea. Problem is the punk doesn't care about his parents.
imagine the power given to a teenager who could care less about school who wants to "punish" his parents. the "state" has already taken the parents ability to punish away, now they give the teenager the ability to have thenm thrown in jail
My daughter would have asked if both of us would be put in jail, but unfortunately, Mom took a section 8 out of the marriage, and I'm left to raise them. I'm sure she would love to see me locked up for 3 weeks so she and her gang members could run the house. No telling what would happen to my son in 3 weeks.
If there was ever a bad idea, this is it.
You don't let kids decide family policy, period. Adults do that. What a bunch of drivel.
