OCEAN CITY -- The process to find a new Ocean City police chief has entered a critical phase with the calendar about to flip over to April and the summer season looming.
Former Chief Bernadette DiPino’s departure last year has triggered a national search to find her replacement while three veteran captains taking turns as interim chiefs.
Ocean City recently concluded its national search, which resulted in 86 applicants from all over the country. According to City Manager David Recor, the first cut reduced that list to 39 candidates, who then received a written supplemental questionnaire seeking specific information regarding their management style, the handling of finances and other matters. That process winnowed the list of potential candidates to 36 as three more applicants dropped out at that point, and that list will be cut by about a third during the next phase of the search.

I heard Barbara duncan threw her hat in the ring for that position
What's the matter? Ya can't promote the asst. Chief to Chief?
Be great if Babs got it. Then Salisbury could languish lacking both a fire & police chief long as Boy Jim is Mayor.
Listen, from experience, OC's candidate selection process is just a motion they go through. Why spend a lot of money to help with the process? If the candidate is a relative or a relative of a friend, they get the job. (unknown) DUncan doesn't stand a chance. This is part of the problem with the discontent within their organization. They started from the beginning that they were entitled to the job and the entitlement mentality never stops.
That's why there is no professionalism there.
It's whoever the Mayor wants, just like the last Chief. Everyone knows this one will be from the outside.
