Nine Football Players Killed By Brain Trauma

Gridiron football has never been more popular. Unquestionably the most popular sport in the United States, professional football is a ten billion dollar a year industry, and high-level college football brings in billions more. The sport is at the top of its game, and with Super Bowl XLVII coming up on Sunday, it’s easy to think that football can only continue to get more popular.

Behind the scenes, though, there is increasing concern that football could be in trouble. The sport is violent by its very nature, and that has long been understood to lead to long-term physical damage. Increasingly, however, it’s becoming apparent that there is a far worse trauma being inflicted on players — serious, irreversible, devastating traumatic brain injuries.

They just need to stop even bothering to "play football". The NFL is already so wussified and commercialized that it's unwatchable. There's only 11 minutes of action in a 3 hour event. It's short running play, commercials for 3 minutes, reply of last play, a quick pass, some ridiculous penalty, 3 minutes of commercials, another replay, 5 minutes of announcers talking, another minute of commercials, another quick play, penalty, ad nauseum. I don't understand who enjoys watching the NFL??

I played football for years. Can anyone tell me if I can sue my high school or where I went to college, or can I sue the NFL to for harboring the dream to play on a grand stage, just curious.

Research has shown that brain trauma can mimic ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease.) This came to mind when OJ Brigance, former Raven's linebacker who was diagnosed with ALS in 2007, now confined to a wheelchair, was introduced at the Super Bowl.

Pass a law touch foot ball only. Uniforms must have pink on them.

Everyone is pointing a finger at the NFL. Just how many of these players were injured playing college football is my question. I strongly support the helmet to helmet contact foul in ALL football environments. However, 15 yard penalties are ridiculous. If you want to punish the TEAM they should give immediate points to the other team.

It's amazing that TBI is finally coming to everyone's attention. Returning soldiers & football players aren't the only ones who sustain TBI. Car crash victims get them too. Maybe now the research will be done to figure out the brain to possibly "fix" some of the resulting damage.
