Gun Licensing Splits Maryland Democrats, Endangering O’Malley’s Agenda

In the wake of the elementary school shooting in Newtown, Conn., Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley was quick to propose a package of gun-control legislation that would ban assault weapons and create some of the nation’s strictest gun-licensing requirements.

But now his proposal is caught in a tug of war between members of his own party that some fear could threaten its chances of passage.

Liberal Democrats, intent on capitalizing on public support for gun safety after the massacre, have introduced more than dozen pieces of legislation that add several additional gun-control measures.

The politician's guiding principle: "Never let a good catastrophe go to waste!"

This is as much another new tax as it is gun control. Note at the bottom, a 100$ fee for a permit. Next on the agenda will be a 500$ fee to buy ammo. Next there will be a fee to have your gun inspected once a year. That will go along with a new tax to be able legally to transport your gun in the car to the inspection station.

Doesn't matter anyway. Most gun owners wouldn't comply anyway!

The only law I want passed is ccw for all.

Right 10:18., except you forgot the 10$ parking permit you must pay when you get your gun to the yearly inspection station. And, think about the additional 10% Maryland gasoline tax that will be law by then. Next it will be BB guns and slingshots.

Registering your guns is nothing more than telling the government that you have guns. Guess what registered gun owners are the first people the government will come after.

Mr. McDermott has already reported that this proposed Registration fee(s) will result in a $468 cost every 5 years. I think that is a little more than "telling the government that you have guns". The Democratic playbook defines everything that happens from the Federal level all the way down to places like Salisbury. THAT is why you must do everything you can to keep Ireton and the rest of their party out in the next election.

Now what will you do to the hundreds of thousands of Marylanders that will not regesterd a dam thing. Who do you think will do your dirty work and try and get those guns. I talked to a few cops and everyone of them said NO WAY.

Tacking on additional thought to 12:19's comment, I'm wondering if new gun laws are in fact passed if it will create more criminals and if Americans will resort to purchasing guns illegally from underground gun traffickers?

If they fear losing their job they won't vote for it. Send them a note.

And NONE of those proposals would have prevented those recent shootings at Sandyhook.

That wacko was not interested in complying with any laws.
