Interesting tidbit for those in the know, Jake's father Randall(Randy) is a Senior Executive for Perdue. This is nothing more than a good ol' boy endorsement, aka "Keep business as usual". Keep fighting the good fight Mr. Albero!

I don't think the phrase "sort of" is accurate.. he endorsed him big time.
I have to be honest, I question if any candidate understands what life is like for me and my family. Jim Perdues letter regarding Day made me feel as though Day has no idea what my real life struggles are.
Who really cares what this Poster Company for Obama's "You Didn't Build That" quote has to say? Many of their employees receive govenment entitlements paid for by the taxpayers, so they didn't build their own company. They had and continue to be subsidized (corp welfare) by taxpayers. Don't be fooled by them. If they picked up and moved tomorrow Salisbury would not miss them. That's a figment of their own imaginations and/or their propaganda. People are not going to stop eating chicken and there is a butt for every seat. Someone would swoop in and open an independant large scale (which is badly needed) processing facility which would benefit everyone including contract growers who make hardly any money as it stand now but has no choice to be under contract due to lack of independant processor.
I say they should leave the area and don't let the door hit them all in the butt on the way out! Then area growers could form something along the lines of the VA Poultry's Grower Cooperative as growers did when Pilgrim's Pride pulled out.
Have you read the letter, Joe? There shouldn't be a ? behind the heading. There is no doubt what Mr. Perdue said.

Did Day vote for Perdue projects while serving on planning and zoning? If so, someone has some explaining to do.
It is Jim's opinion. Just like your opinion that its a good ol' boy endorsement. Get off the couch in your parents basement and go get a job.

As any long time Perdue employee, the company been sinking down the hopper since Frank died, if Jim wasn't related to Frank, he'd be lucky to sweep the floors at the rendering plant.
Jake is a fine young man. I really hate he wants to get involved in a nasty game of politics. His dad and Jim Perdue are fine giving citizens to the community.

Agreed. Definite endorsement. Pretty disappointing since Campbell has defended Perdue on numerous occasions. Also sounds very tit for tat since Ireton has "promised" to give a tax credit for big water users like Perdue.
Day appears to be supported by a lot of good ole boys. This is becoming a real David vs. Goliath race for council and for once the incumbent is the David, not the Goliath.
Voters...we need Debbie Campbell to stay to help support Joe and his agenda. She is terrific. Re-electing her and adding Joe to the equation will finally give this city a chance to live up to its potential.

For years and years scientists have known that the eastern shore has an abnormally high rate of cancer. Maybe they should be looking more closely at the chicken we eat. A law was just passed for more disclosure on the product in their labeling.
That Perdue plant must be a nightmare, the Mexicans won't even work there.
May be that Jim's convictions and priciples are not nearly as deep as his pockets, and since his company has a large processing plant in town, he surely has a vested interest in politicians and their agenda.

Jim and Jake are fine people and are not the takers in our society. He provides jobs way above minimum wage and health ins.to folks with very few skills giving them an oportunity to learn some skills. Sitting on your porch drinking beer teaches no skills..
835-The only reason Jim wrote his endorsement is due to where Jake's daddy works. That's unprofessional and laughable, and in a larger metropolitan area would be laughed at in concert. Of course, Jim nor Jake made any mention to the nature of their relationship; which strikes me as odd and a bit deceitful.
Jim and Jake are cut from the same cloth. Good ol' boys who've made their way in this world not based on their own accomplishments, but because of their fathers. I have nothing against that, but it certainly shouldn't be the reason to cast a ballot for a young man, still wet behind the ears, and who is obviously not one to mold his own opinions but rather follow the opinions of others.

Who doesn't know chicken growers put steroids and hormones into chickens?
Most people who can read know it or should know it. USDA knows it and approves it.

BS 2:24! Nobodys chickens get to 8 pounds in 6 weeks. I have worked for Perdue for 30 years. Not only does Perdue provide jobs and health ins. they also have Wellness centers at almost all plants that provide medical services. Maybe it is time Perdue closed the Salisbury plant leaving Maryland with no poultry processing in Maryland. Then we could move the Corp office to a more tax and gun friendly state.
I attended a discussion at SU last year-kind of like a from Farm to Table thing and the unhealthy method (including drugs and chemicals) that are in the food supply.
An audience member questioned about a processing plant that is on UMES property, bought and paid for with UDSA grants, other federal dollars and state money that is not being utilized. The answer was an insinuation that this plant is being kept closed due to pressure by the big companies who do not want poultry growers to have any other option but to have a contract with them.
There have been many studies done proving that growth hormones in both beef and chicken cause breast cancer. Probably other cancers also but breast cancer for sure.
I am not impressed.
Look how big those oven stuffer roaster chickens are, they are the size of turkeys! That's just not normal. The rate of cancer here on the shore is higher than the averaqe, but the rate of cancer among children is even much higher.
When I was growing up cancer in children was almost unheard of, connect the dots.
9am you make a lot od assumptions. No steroids are used in Perdue chixs. Growth comes from nutrition and genetics(not genetic engineering). Here on the shore I think the cancer issue comes from water that does not get as filter as in places where the water table is much deeper. Not to mention the chemicals we put on ourselves, the air in our homes, and chemicals on our lawns.
Insiders know old man Perdue was never known for his wonderful business ethics of course that didn't stop him from getting "Business Man of the Year" here locally in the past. Sounds like the son is caring on the tradition.

9:35-You have to read between the lines so to speak. An example being the law MD passed recently banning arsenic in chicken feed. Sound great doesn't it? Makes it sound as though chickens are not being fed arsenic. "Fed" and "chicken feed" being what is known as the loophole. Arsenic comes in other forms such as liquid. So who is to say it's not being given in the water supplied to the chicken houses or is given to the chickens in some other form besides in their feed itself. I don't know if it is but just saying to be aware that just because someone is saying no steriods are used in the chickens themselves maybe they are being used in the hatcheries prechicken. Or maybe in the feed itself?
10:41 arsenic is not being used in Perdue chickens water or otherwise. I work at perdue and have in every level from hatchery to growout to the plant. many years ago it was used to fight parasites. Rice is one your best sources of arsenic. N o llopholes being used.
I never said arsenic was still being used 1:19. I only said that you have to pay attention to the wording in legislation. There is a hugh loophole in the MD/arsenic law and whether or not the loophole is being utilized at this moment isn't relevant. What's relevant is that it is there at all. A better law written for the benefit of consumers would have been to ban arsenic and all it's forms in all aspects or poultry production.
FYI-Are you aware that the arsenic found in rice gets there via the soil and water which rice is grown in? It is suspected that not only are long banned pesticides a source of the contamination but also large scale poultry farming that is prevalant in rice country.
Could all just be a coincidence but who knows.
