Parents of children killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School appeared before a subcommittee of the Connecticut Legislature on Monday to speak about gun control. While some used the platform to promote stricter firearms legislation, at least one parent became passionate, claiming that there are more than enough laws on the books, that current regulations simply need to be enforced and that the nation needs to embrace personal responsibility.
Mark Mattioli, whose six-year-old son James perished inside of the school, testified that a plethora of new gun laws isn’t the answer and that, instead, personal responsibility, accountability and civility are the best path forward. He made his comments as intense debate surrounding gun control and the causal factors behind the shooting continue to be at the forefront of public discussion.
The grieving father, who ended up receiving a standing ovation, said that he believes in “simple, few gun laws” and that there are already “more than enough on the books.” Mattioli contends that “the problem is not gun laws” and that these regulations simply need to be enforced.

Heartfelt, true and wise....but unfortunately it will not matter. This tyrannous government will ignore the facts one million times over BECAUSE they cannot proceed with THEIR AGENDA until We the PEOPLE are DISARMED!!

OH, 7:00, it's ALL about guns! And NOT about the protection of our kids! Don't know exactly which rock you've been under, but Sandy Hook has many examples of broken laws; none of which would have changed the outcome of this situation. First, legally owned guns were stolen by murdering the owner. We have laws for that. Second, the perp took guns into a gun free zone. Illegal, but a VERY BAD LAW. I feel my children are unsafe at the school, library, mall, and any other gun free zone. Third, psychotic drugs promoted by Big Pharma for school age children is a crime in itself. This is a large determent to our society. To teach our children that fidgeting in class can be rewarded with a doctor visit and psychotropic drugs is a sin against our children.
Other than that, everything is FINE!
We can start here. We can be the change we want. We can begin to act more civil to each other. From a tiny seed, it could spread.
I also liked the testimony from the woman from Texas who told a story about the effects of gun control in that state and ended her testimony with a statement along the lines of "... this debate is NOT about duck hunting and such. It is about people like me protecting ourselves from people like YOU (politicians)." Jefferson stood up in Heaven and cheered that citizen! I'm sick of these sissy politicians saying things like "hunters don't need a 30 round clip to kill a deer." They are DELIBERATELY framing the Second Amendment in the wrong context --- on purpose! -- to play on the emotions and ignorance of people who know nothing (or choose to ignore) of our history and liberation. We don't 30 round clips for DEER. We need them for power hungry politicians. Yeah. I said it. And MEANT it.
Amen. Here is someone who has the courage to speak the truth. Mental health laws are a large part of the problem.
Now again, there is a person in Alabama who was clearly exibiting disturbed behaviors and a killing happens again, the neighbors said they knew he was disturbed. What can be done?
Social Services and the state dept of health already oversees the elderly and disabled. Several agencies working together will get the job done.
A system of monitoring those who either are of psyc meds, are on disabilty with a history if violence can be set up. Also involve family members in reporting disturbed behavior and then treat it. Make psyciatrists the first responders not the police.
