Troopers Respond To Dog Attack

Location: Argonne Avenue, north of Main Street (St. Rt. 4), Stanton

Stanton – Delaware State Troopers responded to reports of two dogs attacking people in Stanton today. 

 

On October 12^th at approximately 4:15 p.m., a Trooper responded to the area of Argonne Avenue and Main Street (St .Rt. 4) in Stanton for reports of two dogs attacking a mail carrier and citizens who were attempting to help him.

 

When the Trooper arrived at the scene, he observed the two dogs attacking a smaller dog being walked by a 51-year-old Newport woman. In order to end the attack, the Trooper fired his Divisional issued handgun, striking one of the dogs, ending the attack.

 

The mail carrier, a 55-year-old male from New Castle, was transported to Christiana Hospital to be treated for multiple wounds from the dog bites. The 51-year-old woman from Newport refused treatment at the scene for a dog bite to her upper body.

 

Both dogs involved in the attacks were captured by the Kent County SPCA and provided with veterinary treatment. The dog that was attacked remained with its owner.

 

The Kent County SPCA is investigating the attacks. All questions about the status of the dogs and the possibility of criminal charges should be directed to the Kent County SPCA.
