The Lincoln Memorial reflecting pool is empty once again, and it will remain that way for at least another week.
The historic site reopened in late August after nearly two years of construction. While the U.S.
National Park Service says the $34 million renovation has been successful and will save the city about 32 million gallons of water per year, the buildup of green algae in the pool came as a surprise.
The National Park Service says it could have waited for the algae to disintegrate and go through the pool's filtering system.

Is it something draining from the white house causing this?
that pool has been there since the late 1700s. only recently the government has noticed a need to clean it.
Just pour a bottle of clorox in it.
I'd try chlorine tabs. They seem to work in my pool OK. It's a brand new thing... just came out last year, Barack! Uh, uh, uh,uh....
Okay, here's a no brainer that the big heads in Washington just can't get their heads around. If one looks at a Google map satellite view, they will see that just past the Lincoln Memorial, there is a RIVER. Rivers stay relatively algae free because the water in them FLOWS which generates OXYGEN, which, in turn, promotes AQUACULTURE, which, in turn produces the resulting clear water environment! Put on the pump and 8 inch pipe at the west end, plumb in a surface drain at the east end, and stock it with local seafood for kids to fish for! Sunnies, catfish, bass, whatever!
Get a life!
Sorry, Bullard, that would be too simple. After all, this is the federal government we are talking about.
