Capital Fact Checker: Dream Act Could Drive Up Tuition?
Help Save Maryland, a citizen group that opposes illegal immigration, is urging residents to vote against the Dream Act, which is Question 4 on the general election ballot.
If approved, the law would allow illegal immigrant students to pay in-state tuition rates — first at a community college, then at state universities — if they meet certain criteria, such as graduating from a Maryland high school and having parents who paid taxes.
The group's radio ad warns voters of "serious consequences" if Question 4 is approved, then directs them toHelpSaveMaryland.org, where 21 different claims are listed.
