U.S. MISSILES INFECTED WITH CHINESE FAKES

Fake electronic components from China have been discovered in thermal weapons sights delivered to the U.S. Army on mission computers for the Missile Defense Agency’s Terminal High Altitude Area Defense, or THAAD, missiles and on military aircraft, including several models of helicopters and the P-8A-Poseidon, according to federal investigators.

Suspected electronic parts were found in the Forward Looking InfraRed, or FLIR, Systems being used on the Navy’s SH-60-B. The counterfeit parts were delivered by Raytheon, which alerted the Navy.

The new evidence comes reports that the problem with faked Chinese electronic components being installed in U.S. military systems is far more widespread that originally thought.

And how stupid has our government become to allow the purchasing of Chinese parts for missile construction!

How could anyone expect any different when you are buying components from the enemy? Are they unbelievably stupid or is this part of a grander scheme?

As one who formerly worked in the industry, this is the subcontractors- Boeing, Raytheon, L-3 etc. - OH the stories I could tell ... not to mention the $$$! Remember the $500 toilet seat? How 'bout a 1/4-20 nut & bolt @ $10 ea. ?

All those taxpayer $$$ going out to contractors who aren't required to use American made parts and labor. Makes you wonder if defense of this nation (and a strong ecomony is arguably a part of a protecting ourselves) is really the top priority.

If there was ever a time for "Buy America" to be enforced this is it. To 9:46 Maybe you should talk if you have backup. 60 Min I'm guessing that $500.00 toilet seats happen because someone in government isn't doing there job. Imagine that

I work in the defense electronics industry and I wanted to add a little clarity to this issue. The government flows down contract clauses on defense projects that do not allow the use of any parts other than from approved sources. They generally do not allow sources of supply other than the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) or OEM approved distributor. Resellers or brokers cannot participate. Therefore when counterfeit parts find their way into US military programs it is because the contractor did not follow the contracting rules. The contractor either did not have a good system in place, they were fooled or they were dishonest. There are similar tight restrictions on foreign labor. The federal government DOES NOT condone the use of counterfeit parts in any way! And trade with certain countries is restricted by both the Commerce Department and the US State Department. Compliance may not always be easy but there certainly are rules in place.
