A Minnesota high school student who wears rosary beads to school in
support of his cancer-stricken grandmother was ordered to pocket them by
school district officials, who said the beads could be a symbol of gang
membership.
Jake Balthazor, 15, of Coon Rapids, a northern suburb of Minneapolis,
was told Wednesday by Coon Rapids High School officials that he could
no longer wear the black and silver rosary honoring his grandmother, who
was recently diagnosed with breast cancer, his father told FoxNews.com.
“He was told not to wear it again,” Chad Balthazor said Thursday. “He
was upset when he came home from school. A teacher sent him down to the
office, but the reason he was wearing it was for his grandmother.”

Yet, in Detroit Michigan administration allows muslim students to wear a KNIFE on their belt to ward off evil and exhibit their solemn belief in Islam. Crazy.
So, what to do?
Make thugs that wear rosaries prove their Catholics and do not allow them to corrupt freedom of religion.
Profile them. Period.

He'd better wear them tomorrow and every day after and explain to the principal that he is a member of a gang called The Catholics!
I have to wonder if they will allow muslims to wear a burka or hijab? If they are allowed then this student should also be allowed.
12;22 I believe you are talking about Sikhs who are not Muslim but orginate from India. Again, they are not Muslim, but i get your point. this young man should be able to wear his faith proudly and maybe he should sue the school system. It is not fair.

As a Catholic, I think it's really sad that rosary beads been taken up as "bling" by people who have no regard for the Catholic faith (Madonna, for example) or any other, for that matter. Unfortunately, gang bangers are among those who have taken it up. I can't really blame the school. The young man should keep the rosary in his pocket or under his shirt. It's the thought that counts.
