Drone That Crashed This week In Dorchester County Cost $45.9 Million

The cost factor was underscored this week, after one of the Navy's unmanned aircraft crashed in Maryland. The aircraft was one of five Global Hawk drones acquired from the Air Force for surveillance testing; according to the Navy, the military paid $45.9 million for the crashed drone, although Pentagon budget documents put its average unit cost much higher.

Experimental and testing is a bunch of bull, why would they experiment and test a drone in highly populated areas like Washington/Baltimore?

Too much big brother and we are paying for it out the wazoo!

Hey! I wonder what this button does? Oops.

Truthfully, the RQ-4 Global Hawk is a relatively old platform, well past testing stage.
I question, judging from the crash site video if it was the RQ-4 at all.
Probably an X-47B or another more current still secret airframe.

No way in hell that costs 50 million, at least double if not quadruple that. And just think that is our tax dollars up in a cloud of smoke.

I have'nt been able to find the specs for drones in general. They run silent for the most part, and can hover in a stationary position, like for instance when they are looking in a residence window. The totally silent part puzzles me.The manner of propulsion on the small surveillance drones enables them to navigate in really close quarters between apartments that are only 10' apart. No noise whatsoever & perfectly still.Who knows?

2:22,

Don't let the door hit you.

2:38....National magazines, quoting sources in the DARPA organization, have confirmed that we have drones and other "surveillance" machines that CAN operate silently and hover in the same position. Of course, its SUPPOSED to be for military and overseas intelligence operations, but apparently not. I can't understand why more people are not outraged that this technology is being covertly implemented against civilians in the USA. Just how long do you think it will be before the police (at every level) are requesting "armed" drones? .50 cal's and hellfire missiles, you know, for all the terrorists running around in our country. And speeders. And shoplifters. And cell phones users not wearing their seat belt. Don't laugh. If you had told Americans 30 years ago that we would have ther Patriot Act and unmanned drones flying over, watching us, they would have laughed at THAT. So.....

@3:06 The door can't hit me Obama took that too...by the way when Obama and his cronies come knocking down your door and carry you and your family off to jail then you will be thinking of me. American pride only carries me so far since they decide to screw us on a daily basis. But yea I could not value someone's opinion less than I value yours. Have a great life being a moron.

@3:06 What door? From what I understand our country dowesn't have one we let illegals in for free and treat them better than our citizens. Oh and then have to pay the government more and more each year so they can afford the illegal immigrants. Oh and on top of that get spied on without our knowledge. But yea keep talking nonsense. Don't let the intelligence hit you.

2:38 I live on the eastern shore and I do alot of work for the military and the government on weapons systems. I personally watched one of these drones in georgia 2 years ago, it was able to hover in place. When I mentioned there wasn't much of a military market for it the builders stated the civilian market was where the money was at. Guess they knew something I didn't at the time!

Ignore that simpleton dude. People like him keep using worn out and meaningless cliches because they have no original thoughts and low intelligence.

He thought he was being clever but just confirmed what a jackass he really is.

And for the record, I don't like talking about people like I have done here. But after you hear the same garbage over and over and over again, you just gotta vent.

I'm sure Joe knows what I mean since he sees a lot more of it than we do. Peace.
