BE VERY AWARE IN SALISBURY & WICOMICO COUNTY
If you thought the speed cameras were turned off when schools let out for the summer, you're mistaken.
I made some calls yesterday referencing this matter and here's what I found out.
Salisbury's speed cameras will continue for about 5 more weeks.
Wicomico County speed cameras will run 365 days a year.
How our Council Members agreed to such is beyond me but authorities are telling me there's still activities going on in the schools throughout the summer, therefore they will continue to operate. Salisbury stops when summer school lets out.
Yeah, Wicomico County, it's all about the children's safety, NOT. Mind you, Mr. Fredericksen has requested they operate 365 days a year.

What's the big deal? Don't speed or drive like a jerk, and you don't have anything to worry about? Who cares if there are speed cameras...
they are there trust me it will be $40.00 if you get hit
Joe if it is all about the children why isn't the money from the speed cameras going to the schools?
He should keep his spouse from driving the county owned vehicle.
Just because school is out, it doesn't mean that kids won't be at or near the schools. There are plenty of summer programs that go on that require the kids to be at the schools.
Fruitland's is still in operation also. Today, it's just past the water treatment facility (before you enter the traffic circle). And NO, it is NOT in front of the school, as it should be according to their logic.
I agree with 10:26 AM
i don't see what the big deal is. if they are off during the summer (and we KNOW they are off) then people will think its ok to speed and then in the fall when they get turned back on they'll get tickets. they should either be on or off, not sometimes one and sometimes the other. they are they, just leave them on. slow down and they'll be no issues.
i've gotten my $40 fine from S. Division Street. I don't plan on getting one again :)
Another tax.
anonymous 10:26 & 11:03, tell that to all of the Police Officers getting tickets in those areas as well. No one is perfect, right?
Thats like the lights in front of Bennett should be flashing all summer.Their not so they can get red light money also.
I think the Government comps those cops tickets. It is the privilege of power. No points, no fine, no insurance spike.
When asked, cops just give you a conceded smile with a chuckle and say, what are you gonna do about it?
This is not about children safety. It's another way for this area to control your financial future. This area sucks. It has always sucks. Just another way to screw the citizens with more new taxes. Folks, don't give them what they want. Just slow down All the money collected should go right back into the schools. But, I'm quite sure it won't.
Just stop speeding. If you are over 12 mph past the speed limit in town, you are driving too fast.
Any money is going right into the pocket of the vendors-plain and simple.
This is all part of Omalley's Safe Streets initiative, a new program started under the MD State Dept of Transportation. I doubt those state jobs that this initiative started are staffed by volunteers!
Don't fall for the "it's free" money for the city/county. Don't be as dumb as the local politicians that approve these things. We are paying for it higher taxes and fees that the omally admin raised this year.
This is nothing more than a way for omalley to create more state jobs and to pay back large campaign doners and their lobbyists.
That's how politicians work. They "pretend" to be giving money to us (like all this money that we are going to get from these cameras) but really we are paying on another level. They are experts at shuffling things around to confuse us. Don't be confused! This money is NOT free! We are paying for it in other ways!
Why don't most of you stop licking the boots of the ones who oppress you?
You think they care about you and safety? Wrong.
It's all about the MONEY. Always has been, always will be.
Of course, 12 miles over the limit seems to be a bit much in some instances. And on city streets you should be extra careful compared to being on a highway.
Just stop peeing down my back and saying it's raining.
The camera's are used to generate revenue. Just admit it and stop lying to us.
Safety is a catch all phrase that sounds good and allows them to do pretty much what they want. AS PER USUAL.
The same ones enforcing the law are also breaking the very same laws.
Spouting off a few speeches and some figures is just plain old bs.
Just TRY to be honest when you are stealing our money.
Oh, I forgot. You don't know how to do that either.
It's a shame they don't have camera's that actually catch criminals. Then maybe you cops would be happy, to go along with already being lazy.
I believe it's the "Maryland Safe Zones" program under the State Highway Admin.
When I was a kid we would have spray painted the lenses, Come on kids help your parents out.
Between casinos and camera tickets you would think Maryland would be rolling in the dough. Don't fall for the 'revenue generator' baloney. Yes, these "revenue generators' are just a way to pay back the buddies of the politicians and to create more state government jobs.
Yep, my son just got a $40 ticket in the mail...not blaming anyone but him, but I do agree that if its about keeping the kids safe, than give the money to the schools. We all know they need it.
I will vote for you.
The schools don't need the money, they already get more than half the taxes we pay. If they can't make it on that, give it to me to do the job! I'll get it done for 2/3 what they're taking in now.
Trust me the only revenue generated is in the pockets of the camera vendors. This program-Highway Safety created 55 new state jobs and numerous contractural postions. This program has a budget of 18 million dollars.
You can look it up yourselves if you don't believe it-the budget is online.
If you really believe that part of the 'revenue generated' from these devices is not going to the government, then I think you are part of the government trying to play it off or, someone whose intelligence is questionable.
That's the best way I can say it without being offensive.
Censorship Nazi.
I'm leaving this blog and never coming back!
Yeah, I know. I'm lying. lol
I don't see what the big deal is if you're dong the speed limit...
would be nice to know where each camera is located
8:56 if the government insists on raping me they ought to at least give me a kiss first, don't ya think?
