Missing Canoeist Located In Maryland

Fenwick Island, DE – The body of the missing Maryland man was found yesterday afternoon in a Maryland bay.

Nicholas R. Townsend, 23, of Ocean City, MD was last seen at approximately 4:00 a.m. Friday March 2nd as he and Matthew Bullen were canoeing in the Assawoman Bay off of Fenwick Island, DE. The canoe tipped over, throwing Townsend and Bullen into the water. Bullen was able to swim to the shore, however, Townsend was not.

Townsend’s body was turned over to the Medical Examiner’s office in Maryland where an autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.

The investigation into this incident is continuing.
