I am all for those who lay their life on the line to protect our country and I know that they have a ton of other major problems to worry about like being shot or blown up. I commend them for their courage and honor for our country. But these guys are not at work everyday scraping together change to pay the bills, they are in a forgien country fighting the enemy. We are at work fighting our government.
I am a military officer at the company level (100 or so troops) and so I deal with the issues my troops have on a daily basis. A quick glance at a military pay chart would show that many of our lower enlisted (E-4 and below) are asked to place their lives on the line, leave their families at a moments notice and fight the enemy wherever they may be for what most Americans would consider poverty level compensation (an E-1 can make as little as $350 a week prior to taxes... yes, we pay taxes too). Many of our finest young Americans do struggle to pay their bills and provide for their families. The difference is that many of them must do so thousands of miles from the home they are paying for. Please do not look at these men and woman as simply people living "on the government's dime" because, to do so, is completely disrespectful of the financial and personal difficulties they face just like the rest of America. Many see public service as an easy way to earn a government check... but ask yourself a simple question: If you were asked to carry a gun to work or enter a burning building to save others, wouldn't you be worth every penny the tax paying citizens give you to do it? I think so... and I salute all those who do because none of them have to do it. They do it because they love their country, their community and their family.
